Honeymoon idea's..

Ok guys, after 4 years, i popped the question about a month ago.. She said yes, so it's all good. We are looking at getting married sometime next year, between September and November on the beach in Florida. Pushing more for November to avoid silly hurricanes and people passing out from heat stroke. We are kicking around ideas for a honeymoon. Has anyone here been to Sandals resort in Jamaica? I know there are several resorts down there.. just wanting a real review of them, not a chamber of commerce report. What are some other places maybe in the Carribean to look at? We are saving cash now to make it less painfull... so, probably no more mods for the truck for awhile.. But, would rather not be in debt from the honeymoon, not a fun way to start out life together.

Thanks for any help guys!:santa:

I would personally stay on the coast and not go to the islands...There are all kinds of places to choose from along Florida all the way to Alabama. Most of these places are hurting for business so prices should be cheaper, maybe if you could book way in advance perhaps to get a lower price...?

Hotels.com is pretty helpful as well

My wife and I stayed at the Excellence Resort, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. It is an all inclusive resort, for a cheap skate like me, is just plain awesome. It is not cheap by any means, but paying for everything ahead of time, and when you are there you are just enjoying yourself and not worrying about how much things are or even carrying your wallet with you is just plain great!

The staff down there dont even accept tips, which I believe is the way it should be, but thats a whole other discussion. They get paid for their work and they do a great job without the expectation of a tip. The only thing that was not included in our trip of course was souvenirs, but everything else was paid for in advance, beer/alcohol included.

The staff at the resort were awesome and they take care of you, especially newlyweds, so mention that. But stay on the resort, once you are off the grounds, it is fair game on tourists. Not saying you would get mugged or attacked, but the locals will bother the hell out of you to buy stuff, so stay on the resort, there is plenty to do and see.

Hey man, I got married last year and we went to Sandals on St. Lucia Island. It's absolutely incredible! When they say everything is included, they are not BSing you. The only things you'd need to pay for are spa treatments, caddies if you golf, or off-site excursions. We locked our wallets and passports up in the room safe and didn't even open the safe until the night before we went home.

It's a little more expensive than a normal trip, but it's worth every penny. If you go though a travel agent you might be able to get a good deal. We booked our room for 7 nights and got 2 nights free, plus a $250 credit to the on-site spa.

Here's my thread asking about them. https://www.f150online.com/forums/ge...s-resorts.html

My friend got married last month and they also went to Sandals on St Lucia and loved it! They're planning on another Sandals trip next year.

I have actually always wanted to go to St. Lucia, it just looks awesome from pictures i have seen. I grew up in Florida, and she lived in Florida for 5 years, and on the coast in South Carolina for 4 years, so we have been to a lot of beaches in the US, but i have always wanted to see the Carribean. The water just looks amazing. She is a certified scuba diver, and if we go, i'll get certified as well. Seeing those pictures is convincing me that's the way to go. My old company i worked for down in Tampa did HVAC design on a resort in Aruba... wonder if i could swing a deal with them? My buddy got to do the site visits.. not me.

Tarajerame, her dad said if we eloped, he would give us cash down payment on a house... i can't print what her mom said if we eloped... soooo...lol...

Sounds like Sandals is what we are looking for..

Haha, take the money!

Diving is included at Sandals, but be sure to bring your cert cards and log book. They might want you to do a refresher session in their pool before diving if you're new.

I didn't dive while on my honeymoon, but I've dove around Grand Bahama and Bimini and it's incredible!

My vote is for Sandals at St.lucia too. I believe I told NCSU to go there as well. I didn't want to spend the money at first but I'm glad I did and want to go back sometime.

Hey NCSU....you have a PM. Would you be able to email some of your pics of St. Lucia to me? Looks like you had a better camera than I had when I was there(5 year old point and shoot) so my pics are not that great.

Sandals is pretty expensive, but if money isnt an issue id do it. There are plenty of resorts out there to stay at if you just take a little time and do some research. Whatever you decide as far as resorts just make sure its all inclusive and you shouldnt have any problems. My family likes to go to Cozumel every year....Ive been to St. Thomas..St Maarten which i liked both...

Look up "The Caves" in Negril. My wife and I spent 5 days there in May and it is by far the nicest "mini" resort I could ever hope to go to. It's been consistently voted Jamaica's best resort by many top raters. There's only about 20 people there at a time and the service is top notch. Here is my pictures of our trip....

Wow beautiful pictures. I'll have to put that on the list for honeymoon places as well.

Check out the RIU in Nassau Bahamas. Great price and all inclusive. Includes liqour and beer in the room and all you can eat with the best food I have gotten at an all inclusive resort so far. Water is crystal clear and the locals are welcoming. The Atlantis is next to the RIU which is much more expensive to stay at but you still can gamble and use the water park there. Just went last year and had an awsome time.
