Sandals Resorts...

Anyone ever been to any of the Sandals Resorts? Thinking about going to one in St. Lucia for our honeymoon. The all inclusive deal is pretty cool, plus lots of stuff to do on the island.

Any thoughts or comments will be appreciated!

I have a friend who went to that resort on his honeymoon a few months ago and has nothing but good things to say about the place.

I have been to both sandals in Ocho Rios last year, and close friends of mine went to the one in St. Lucia.

As for sandals, I think it really depends on what you are looking for. I thought that they were over priced but they have a lot of things that a country boy like myself doesn't appreciate. Not really sure what type of info you are looking for. We went for 10 nights, stayed the first 6 at the Grande in Ocho Rios, and the next 4 at Sandals Dunns river. The Dunns river was much nicer, much smaller and you could actually meet and hang out with the same ppl more than once. The Grande was WAY too big, had to take a shuttle to the beach if you were on the wrong end of the resort.

My wife and I compared pictures with the St. Lucia people and they said that our accomodations were much better than theirs.

Have you ever been to tripadvisor.com? It has a lot of useful information including actual traveller photos of each resort and a great reviews section.

My wife and I thought about it, not for our honeymoon just to go and see what its like. While we were at sandals we met a bunch of couples that did go, and they said that its just a lot of really ugly/dirty people .. not sure though.

The only problem with sandals St. Lucia is that they had a big muskrat problem, so they brought in cats to kill off the rats. Now the stray cats are everywhere. They come up to you and purr while you are trying to have a nice romantic dinner......Big turn-off for us but we both HATE cats.....

It isn't that there is "no booze" .. its just that it is not included in the price. Not sure why, guess they don't want people getting stupid drunk and falling off the ship.

The wife and I just went to the Sandals in St. Lucia and stayed at the Grande resort and did not see any rats or cats? Although except for the Sandals the island seems pretty run down, it's just not the same as the U.S.

Anyway it was great. The first day started off a little rough due to a mix up on the room we were to get. It was supposed to be a beach front but they did not have any available. We booked trough beachbumvactions.com and we are not sure if it was Sandals or beach bum that messed up the room but either way sandals upgraded our room to a concierges room at no charge to make it up to us. Besides that it was a great stay. We went in September and it was pretty hot, not sure what the temp. was but it was nothing that the swim up bar could not take care of!!

If you go be sure to book a couples massage on the pier at sunset the wife will love it even if you don't and she'll pay you back later!! Also if you go be sure to bring some khakis and some polo shirts for diner, most of the places restaurants require you to were decent clothes for dinner. The only thing that I did not like was that there was not a selection of beers and what they had was barely cool...not cold. They only had Heineken and Piton(a local brew named after a mountain on the island). Needless to say I discovered frozen drinks All and all it was a good time and we had some moments that won't soon be forgotten. I had second thoughts at first cause of the price but in the end it was well worth it and we plan to go back again some time.

Here are a few pics

a view from a fire station

and a couple from the beach at Sandals
