I think for some people it is a great idea. We bug a camping buddy relentlessly about his inability to back up his travel trailer. It is hard to watch. Sadly he drives a Chevy so he will have to wait a few more years before Chevy can steal this from Ford.

Me neither! But, I DO pull a travel trailer and can see how this feature is a good idea. The "opposite steering" part has never bothered me, but the limited visibility to the rear leads to not knowing quite when to stop turning and going back to "following" the trailer.

I wonder if there's any possibility of the control turning the wheel when you don't want it to? Like on the highway at 75 mph. I imagine there will be numerous safeguards to prevent that.

I can see where it would be pretty nice, but part of me says "what happened to real drivers?" Back when your truck was manual transmission and you backed a trailer. Also, I tend to be a little concerned about "one more thing to go wrong". True, I'm old fashioned, have been all my life, not just as I got older.

I am not to sure its a good idea we all know to watch the front end of our trucks for the swing. Now we have novice people backing up using this system but not watching there surroundings and not to mention that you would not be able to see anything pulling a stock trailer or box trailer like fenders or the back end of it. I am thinking i will keep my mirrors and keep teaching my son son and daughter to back with there side mirrors and not look at a camera and or over there shoulder. Just my opinion.

I don't see how this helps that much. You still have to decide which way to turn the ****. Is that any different in knowing which way to turn the steering wheel?

Had to look that up. You may be correct, I knew I was some kind of "ite".

I'm pretty sure it makes use of the existing steering system. They went to electric power steering awhile ago and that is what makes items like this possible.

As for the control system for the trailer backup... I'm sure its locked to only take control when in reverse and while below a certain speed limit...

I'm sure you're right, and possibly there are other safeguards as well, but ... there's always "Murphy's Law".
