Buying a new 2015 - 2018 F150

The time has to upgrade my 1998 F150 XLT Extended Cab to a new Crew Cab so I am in the Market for a used 13th Gen Crew Cab but there are soo many different options its a bit overwhelming. I am leaning towards an XLT Crew Cab Sport so what options do you all have that you like and what not have that you wish you did. One thing I learned with my 1998 F150 is that I had always wished that I had at least bought a 1999 F150 since there was an increase of HP and they went from a 3 door to a 4 door on the extended cab so I dont want to make a mistake like that again with my 13th Gen F150. Also I'm pretty unsure of which engine to go with leaning towards the coyote for reliability and longevity reason but open to the 2.7 and 3.5 Eco Boost as well are there known issues with either? Oh and is there a difference between an XTR and an FX4? Thanks everyone I look forward to reading your input and hopefully it does not cause too many fights.

The XTR is a Canadian XLT with a trim package. Available on both 2wd and 4wd.

I love my 3.5L EcoBoost! No maintenance problems in my entire truck in the four years I've had it. Only changed the oil, filter and tires. It snows where I live so 4WD is a must for me.

Thanks!

Good old Jack and Janet! Thank you sir you have answered so many of my questions over the years what a great resource you have been to the F150 Community! I was leaning toward the coyote but when you come out and say the 3.5 it makes me rethink things a bit.

Wow!?! What happened here?

I used to use this forum for my 1998 F1-50 and there was lot of responses all the time. Now I ask what people like about their trucks and nobody can say anything? What happened here? Did everyone migrate to Facebook groups?

It's a LOT slower than it used to be. The management has chased quite a few people away who couldn't keep things reasonably respectful, that may have something to do with it.

I would consider a boosted engine if I lived at a high elevation cuz they don't lose power like a normally aspirated engine. But, in general, the 5.0 might be more reliable.

I have the 3.5 turbo in my 2018 and I love it. Great gas mileage and more than enough power even while towing.

I had a 2014 5.0 no issues. Traded it in on the 2018 5.0. Just passed 1 year with the 2018.

Also have a 2003 F150 getting a 2015 5.0 and 6spd....

So for me, its an easy vote. That being said I think they're all pretty good engines, just a matter of what you're wanting

Ok thanks everyone!

Well thanks everyone for your input I test drive drove a 2.7 TT and a 3.5 TT the 2.7 was a for sure no my PHP tuned and nodded 98 4.6 had significantly more power than that. The 3.5 felt good all around but I still need to try the 5.0 coyote. I think maybe too many were chased away but one thing for sure is the F150 nation FB group is out of control constantly fighting about engines and putting other people's trucks down.I guess when the time comes at this point so long as it has a 5.0 or a 3.4TT and the price is right I will be set.

I only have 11,000 miles on my 2018 5.0 so I can't really give much of a review. I love it so far, good power and economy. I know some guys with 3.5 Eco trucks and they all say they would get another Eco-boost when buying another truck.
