Question for those with the 3.5l base engine.

For those that have the 3.5l base v6 how well does your truck preform do you have enough power to get up and go when needed is more of what I'm looking for. Plus general overall performance of the engine. Reason why I'm asking is I might consider getting a truck with said engine if I can't get a 2.7l version of a truck within my budget range. Which will most likely be a 4x2 XL with either the sport or chrome package reg cab is within the lower end of my range with the extended cab in my upper limit range. A 4x4 reg cab short bed would be my ideal truck but those seem to be very rare. I gotten by in TN winters with just a 4x2 before so I should be able to get by with one again most likely, but hopping to at least find one with the locking diff on a 4x2 if at all possible. As I need to get back into a new vehicle this used Mustang I bought little over 6 months ago has had some minor issue and just want to get rid of it as this intermittent no crank no start issue has gotten on my last nerve as you never know when it will happen. After a few tries it does start so it hasn't left me stranded yet but it sure gets old.

Sorry nobody has posted to help you. For a comparison, I have a 2014 Supercrew 2wd with the 3.7 engine. It makes a little more HP than the 3.5NA engine- my 305hp to the 3.5 at 282hp. I also have the 3.73 rear axle ratio. My truck came with the 20" wheel package, 275x55x20 tires. I can light the tires up in first gear and some in second. The truck screams. Most folks think I have an EB engine but it's the base 3.7 and yes, I've looked, many times actually. While I haven't driven a 3.5 in anything, it should be able to move quite nicely. I came from a 4.6 Supercrew to this truck and there is no comparison. This truck I now have is a hot rod by comparison. If you can find a 4x4 with the 3.5 engine and the 3.73 rear axle, I think you'll be more than pleased with it. Even a 2wd with a 3.55 axle should make you grin.

I had a 2005 with the weak, no guts 4.2 v6 and it was ok, I can't imagine something with almost 100 more HP and 70 lb ft torque would be worse, in a truck that weighs a lot less

I don't own one, but I did test drive a couple when shopping for my current truck. At the time I had an '04 with the 4.6 engine and the 3.5 seemed to have more power than the V8 I owned.

The 3.5 NA vs the 3.7 would be a push in performance due to the lower weight of the 2015-2016.
I know 4 people who own 2013-2014 supercabs and they can't light the tires up....not even a squeal with the traction control off. I am assuming you were power braking. My 2016 5.0 can squeal the tires but not light them up.
The 3.5 and 3.7 have a nice quiet rumble to them inside the cab.

Nope, no power braking and no mods. It will not break the tires from a dead start on normal asphalt but once rolling, the tires starts turning faster than the truck is moving until the engine just pegs the tach. Once the truck catches up with the tires, it shifts gears to second where it pops them loose for a couple of seconds and then hauls the mail. Everybody that has ridden in it thinks it's a modded EcoBoost until they lift the hood. No turbos, no intercooler, and only 6 injectors. Since this is my only 3.7, it has a throaty exhaust after 1800 rpms with the hammer down. The only thing changed on the truck has been the oil.

Thanks for the info on this engine. The more I think about it I might just go with a used 2011 to 2014 style truck instead with either the eco or 5.0 if I get a truck again any time soon. I just don't know if I could live with the XL trim level and the wimpy engine compared to the other 3 engines offered in the F150 as my 00 and 05 were XLT trim level so XL would be a step down.
