Autoshut off on 2015 f150

hey guys, I have a 2015 f150 lariat fx4. love the truck and all the options, except for 1. after about 20 minutes of idling, the vehicle will shut itself off. I normally will pull up to a store, leave it running, then go inside. I do this because of the heat in louisiana, and I have my service dog that goes everywhere with me.

on more than 1 occasion i've came back out to a truck that powered itself off. how can i fix this?

I have a 2016 Lariat with the same issue. I don't leave the vehicle with the engine running but the shutting off whenever I am at a stop is a PIA.
Hopefully someone has the way to turn that feature off.

I have the 5.0, so it doesn't cut off when stopped at a redlight. It's just when I go into Walmart for a minute and leave Grunt (my service dog) because it's raining, I want the confidence that my truck won't shut off when I leave it running on purpose. If I take the key with ne, or leave it in the truck, it's the same result. I thought I read somewhere it was to prevent suicides in park garages?

That's only on the 2.7.

You can push the button to turn it off but you have to do this every time you start the engine. I understand this will defeat it:

It makes the computer think you have a trailer connected. You can also get a programmer, the tuner can turn it off.

You must have a bunch of confidence to leave the engine running while you and your dog go into a store. With all the transplanted NY ghetto trash in my area, the truck wouldn't be there when I returned if left running.

First off, read what he wrote. He leaves it running when HE goes into the store, but leaves the dog in the truck. That makes perfect sense, because it's hotter than Hades in LA.

Secondly, I would guess that crime is quite different in LA than it is in NY.

I read it again and the OP never exactly mentions that the dog is left in the truck. Service dogs are assigned to accompany the owner wherever he or she goes and never are left in cars.....that was what we were told when my son got his after his service in Iraq.

Post #3. I agree that service dogs normally accompany the owner everywhere, but I'm sure there are special cases.

And thanks to your son for his service!

You can turn this off pretty easy. It is in the productivity screen in the gauge cluster, somewhere to the right scroll over to it and explore it.. Shouldn't be that hard to find.

That's only for the auto start/stop on the 2.7, and it has to be done every time you start the engine (unless you use the hitch cover I linked). The OP's complaint is his 5.0 is shutting itself off for some reason.

What is the reason for it to keep running with a trailer connected?

Just got back from my buds dealership. I asked about this since I'm considering a 2017 and all F150's will have this "feature". The service manager kinda had the deer in the headlights look when I asked so he called in some of the guys that actually work on these trucks how they keep the engines running. It varied a lot but here's what some will claim will keep the truck running. I do not advocate any of these but you can try these until it either works or it doesn't. Turn the bright headlights on while idling. The system won't let the battery be drained so it keeps running. Turn the A/C on max air and keep the windows down enough that the truck won't cool inside. The engine keeps running to keep the inside cool. Put the transmission in tow/haul mode. And if you feel adventurous, there is the on/off switch on the dash that you take the bezel off and can jump the white and the purple wires so that the truck always thinks the system is supposed to be off. This can be a permanent fix with a jumper wire. Again, these were what the guys that work on them claim will keep the truck running while idling. I don't have this on my truck to try it so yer on yer own here. I'd be interested to know if any of it or all of it works.

Probably, to maintain a charge state on the trailer battery, which is probably powering a refrigerator in the trailer.

All 2017 ecoboosts will have start-stop.

Which is different than the 20min @ idle shut-off issue on the OP's 5.0L.
