Towing boat without weigh distributing hitch
Hey all - in all the Videos (attached below) showing off pro trailer backup assist, the f150 in the truck does not seem to use a weight distributing hitch.

If towing the same size boat and about the same weight, do I need a weight distributing hitch?
Here is a pic of my platinum.

It REALLY depends on the hitch weight of the boat. That being said, most boats in the size range of that one in the video carry the majority of the weight over the trailer tires. I would feel comfortable towing that boat with your truck w/o a WD hitch. But you should scale out your truck with boat attached just to make sure you are legal and also feel comfortable with it.. I work for a marina and have for over 30 years. I've towed about anything one can using anything from a Ranger 4x4 to a one ton dually. (I think the biggest thing I've towed is a 44' Outerlimits on a triple axle (aluminum) Myco trailer.) In all of that time, I've never towed anything that required a weight distributing hitch. That said, I think you'll be just fine.

A properly set up boat trailer will have a tongue weight that will work for most trucks. The weight can easily be changed by sliding the boat for and aft on the trailer, or in some cases moving the axles. Too much weight squats the truck and can make the front end light making braking difficult and dangerous. Too little weight can cause trailer sway, very dangerous as well. If in doubt, take it to a reputable trailer dealer for check and adjustments. WD hitch should rarely be needed.
