Violently shaking xlt 4x4 supercrew

So I drove today using my 4x4 since it was snowing. Once I didn't need it, I waited till I got to the red light off the exit and put it back to 2H. Didn't notice any issues. When I left work 10 hrs later I got on the highway and it started shaking the entire drive. Hard too. Wtf is it?!? What is the top speed for these in 4H? I could see the bed shaking it was so bad at a few points

Could you have snow/ice build up in the wheels? Just a little bit will give you a real good vibration. I went to the hand wash today and sprayed out my wheels!

It could be. I did notice snow and ice on struts since they are visible in the rear. I mean it shook hard. Could I have ef'd something up with driveshaft or something using the 4x4? What is the max speed for 4H and 4L

Not the ice. Didn't think it would be. Sprayed it then drove it and you can feel the shaking at 30+ but u think maybe it's the road, then at 55+ Your teeth chatter from the shaking

If there are max speeds, they will be addressed in the owner's manual.

You need to go to a car wash that has an undercarriage spray, or wait till it warms up or put it in a warm garage.

I did spray it, that's why I said not the ice. Manual doesn't say anything about speed except don't spin tires greater than 35mph when stuck in mud.

Did the spray get behind all the wheels?

I would bet you have snow or ice built up in a wheel/ rim. It can shake the heck out of your vehicle. My Carolla had it bad at highway speeds last week. With the wheel spin it just pastes the ice and snow against the inside of the rim and shakes the steering wheel.

Not sure about top speed in 4H but I was in 4H coming out of my hunting club last week and forgot to turn it off. I had been doing 65-70 on the interstate for a while before I noticed the 4H light was still on and the light was the only thing I noticed. The truck was not shaking at all.

Hi New2eco,

I reached out to you another forum you posted on, but wanted to touch base with you here, too. I'd recommend making an appointment at your dealership for diagnosis. Additionally, I can help by looping in your regional customer service manager. To get started, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll do the rest.

Crystal

Do you have wheels with the plastic "Hub Caps"? My Edge has them on the factory 20's and it is a major PITA in snowy conditions. The ice and snow build up between the wheel and "hup cap" and causes the same as you are experiencing.

Something else to check, if you have ice built up on your drive shafts.

Or, if you rubbed too much snow/ice and knocked off those little balancing weights on the drive shafts.

Also, a dead U-joint on a drive shaft is a SCARY feeling. I lost one on my '03 and it was no joke.

Ice was the culprit.. Never even knew that little bit of snow/ice would cause that. Less than 2 inches and 10 degrees out caused it
