Do you guys order or buy your trucks off the lot? I have done both but prefer to order. I will say the waiting/Anticipation can be hard on ya....This was me when my truck came in

So far I've bought most of my vehicles off the lot. By doing on-line searches of the inventories of the dealerships around me, including their extended inventories, I have been able to find what I would have ordered and have been able to negotiate pretty attractive deals. I made a list of the options I wanted before I bought my current truck and was able to find what I wanted, even down to the color.

I ordered, I wanted the truck EXACTLY the way I wanted it. Not willing to settle for close enough.. The wait was worth it. My truck, my way.

Always buy off the lot. What I want is readily available, usually several to choose from.

I've ordered a new F150, Escape, and Flex. I bought my '05 F150 off the lot because I got a smoking deal (33% off sticker) and took delivery on 12/31/05. Had it not been for that sweet deal on the '05, I would have ordered an '06. My '08 was bought used.

I prefer to order so that I can get exactly what I want and so some yahoo hasn't been test driving it.

I ordered my '13 (first ordered vehicle ever) and it is nice to get everything that you want, in the color you want, etc. In my case I wanted a lariat 5.0 w/ 6.5' bed and my dealer here in Northern Cal leaned towards mainly ecoboost on their lot for the loaded trucks w/ 5.5' beds (nothing wrong with that engine though). However, towards the end of the wait for the truck I was starting to loose my mind and had a hard time concentrating at work
Next time I'll likely get one off the lot. So, much depends on how patient you are and if you want something that isn't readily available within traveling distance of where you live.

I was going to order one, but because you have no idea what the incentives (rebates, etc) are going to be when it will arrive, you have to basically count on paying sticker cost, unless you have an x-plan or something. And even x-plan pricing isnt great.

Plus, with the 2015's, the order lead time was 3-5 MONTHS... 2016's might be better, but the chances of timing it just perfect to get your truck when the incentives are hitting are slim.

Basically my truck was close enough, and I got a killer deal on it.

I got a 2015 SuperCrew XLT with 6.5' bed, 5.0 and 3.31 locker rear and tow package. As you probably know, the 2015 SuperCrew with 6.5' bed was as rare as a unicorn. There were zero on lots until mid July, a few early special orders were the only ones produced prior to that. When I bought my truck, there were only 22 in the entire state, and 10 of them were XL's, a few high end XLT's and 2 Lariat's ($55,000 trucks).

If I was to order it, I would have had a 3.55 locker, the extended range fuel tank, and since I had my choice of color, probably would have gotten blue flame

But as it was, my tradeoff on the options was worth it on the money I paid...

X-plan is only a couple hundred over invoice (invoice minus 0.4%, plus $275 admin fee), and doc fee is limited to $100.

Which is all good and well, but later in the year discounts ALWAYS are better deals than any of the "plans"

I bought with Z Plan and yes you do get all the rebates. I lucked out with 5500 in rebates in addition to the plan discount. Only one you can't use with the A,Z,D, X plans is the $750 coupon you get if you order a brochure. ....if they still do that.
My '13 was delivered in January 2013 and Ford was offering rebates....so you never know.

I just got one off the lot recently. I originally wanted this exact truck but in a King Ranch and couldn't find one so we contacted the owner of a dealer we had a connection with. He found it but had to transport it, said he was giving me his best price and would 'go to bat' for me and if that didnt work I could go direct with the other dealer. I asked to see what was on the lot, found a truck I liked in 10 minutes didnt even test drive it.

My only regret is, if I were to have ordered the only things I missed on this truck was the auto side steps and extended range fuel tank. I can live without those, I dont think it is missing any other options.

After breifly stressing on what I wanted exactly I realized I was more looking for a deal and I got them well into their hold back and had the deal done in 20 minutes. Great dealership experience, they made quick money and I got what I wanted.

You can use the "brochure" coupon with X Plan.

It's X Plan Price - Incentives - Private cash/"brochure offers."

I'm on a mailing list and I'm getting $1000 private cash offers by email now.

The offer is only good for the 2015 F-150 right now because the 2016s aren't out yet and won't be for awhile hence why there are "no incentives" on 2016s. You can't incentivize someone to buy what you don't have on the lot to sell.

Again, with ordering, you have NO idea when the truck will arrive. So it's a complete crap shoot. Especially this time of year, you arent getting ANY incentives on 2015's till like April... so all the talk of getting rebates and incentives when ordering is a moot point for the OP right now. Unless he plans on ordering in May or June
