2015 F150 with trailer tow package

There is no adapter anywhere in the truck, I called the dealer and they said it's supposed to be in the glove box. It's not. And they are not being terribly helpful. Supposed to call me back in a bit...

If I have to buy one of these things, where would you recommend? And are they a fairly common part or unique to F150's? My 2005 just had the old style 4 pin flat trailer connector on the bumper, probably because I did not have the tow package or factory hitch.

 

One more question, will an adapter from a 2002 F150 work on it?

 

Crazy, what "adapter" are you asking about? If you have the tow package, I believe you have an integrated brake controller and you should have both the 4-pin and 7-pin plugs at the back, and, the hitch receiver.

Supposedly, in your glove box you will have a 30 Amp trailer battery charging fuse and you may have a relay for that purpose too - I did.

But there's no other "adapter" I'm aware of for towing. The only adapter I know about is one to add a 3rd party brake controller, which you should not need.

I did not have anything in the glove box but 2 screws in a plastic baggy and the owners manual pouch...

I am talking about the round plastic 7 pin plug thingy... which converts down to the standard 4 pin trailer plug

 

If that is what you are looking for, one from a 2002 would fit.

However, in the back, you should have a connector for a 4 pin and a 7 pin, negating the need for the adapter. Have you checked that?

 

Crazy, look UNDER the bumper, to the left of the hitch receiver. I think they will both have weather covers over them.

Our 2013 has both the round and the flat plugin on the left side under the bumper near the receiver.

 

on the 2015's they are by the license plate.. both 4 and 7

 

I have a '15 with the trailer package with the 2 covered connectors next to the license plate, but I did have a trailer adapter in my glove box. The part # on the bag is FL3T 15A416-AA, but I don't know what it's for.

It has a squarish gray connector with 4 wires about a foot long labeled as follows.

Whole wire bundle - Labeled Instrument Panel Feed Bundle
Blue wire - Labeled To Trailer Electric
Violet wire - Labeled Stop Lamp
Blue/Black wire - Ground
Blue/Violet wire - Labeled Feed from Battery

I also had a second bag FL3T 15A562-AB Rear Video Camera Wiring Protective Cap.

 

In looking into this further it looks like the adapter cable is to hook up a brake controller and the protective cap is used when the tailgate is removed to protect the camera connector.

 

my 2015 F 150 with trailer towing package was putting out power to the trailer battery circuit(it also powers my power tongue jack). It is now dead. I can not find anywhere which relay is it in the distribution box. What number is it?

 

Look in the Power Distribution Box section of your Owner's Manual. It will list it in the diagram there.

That is why I'm asking. I looked in my manual and it does not state which fuse/breaker is for the power to charge the trailer battery. That is why I'm asking.

 

I owe you an apology, which I'm giving. You're right. I just spent a long time studying a Power Distribution Box diagram in an online version or the 2015 Owner's Manual. There is nothing there for the +12V Trailer Battery Feed. (Nothing in the "in-vehicle" fuse box either).

So, it's normally a 30A fuse, and my 2014 truck also has a relay for that purpose. The only 30A fuse whose purpose is not clear to me is #54, a "Voltage Quality Module". I'd start there, and if it's not the one, pull and check every 30A fuse. If you see anything in a "Not Used" slot, I'd pull and check that too, since the trailer battery fuse and relay are generally not installed at the factory.

Good luck. I looked in both a "first" and "third" printing of the manual, and neither one has the needed information. It really bugs me when the documentation does not keep up with the product.
