Lariat and platinums are not just half ton trucks, they are a statement and ford has proven you don't need 3/4 ton truck with these new f150's. Leave the 3/4 tons to the Chevy guys

Agreed. This is a luxury vehicle that can go just about anywhere and do anything, replacing my luxury vehicle that can't go anywhere (Audi S5) and despite the horsepower and AWD traction, would look silly trying to tow a trailer.

My experience has been the Lariat allows a 2-speed transfer case versus the single speed in the Limited/Platinum and the Lariat allows a full 40/20/40 front bench.

This may have changed for the '15 model but those were two sticking features for my past purchases.

Where are you trying to take your S5 that it can't go? Of course off road is out of the question but on the road my S4 gets WAAAAY better traction than any truck I've ever driven. Last winter we had a couple inches of sleet on top of a 1/4 of ice. I had a set of snow tires laying around that I was running on and it was a beast! I was driving up slopes that people couldn't walk up. As long as I kept the TC on and my foot outta the gas I could go anywhere.

Except they ARE half ton trucks, and let the DOT give you a nice fat ticket for pulling / hauling over your GVWR / GAWR to prove it to yourself...

And the $30,000 XL will haul / tow just as nice as your silly $60,000 platinum...

Do you live in a cardboard box, because technically, that's all you NEED.

Seriously dude, if they have $60k to spend on a truck, then let them! My F stock will appreciate it, and will enable me to buy my next $60k truck in a few years!

Don't worry about him. That troll comes crawling out from under his bridge every once in a while to throw a fit. His favorite topic to whine about is top trim level trucks. I just laugh at him because both trucks can haul a load of firewood but mine can blow nice cold air onto my sweaty nutz on the drive home but he has to suffer away on a vinyl seat.

5 rural acres. Building on new property and my S5 can't even make it to the property line

Also, it was a failed experiment as both me and my kids outgrew it

If your S5 is like my 535i, it can't go down an interstate that has potholes without popping a tire. After my 5th front tire popping and repair & maint bills, I am done with my fast nice German car experience and going back to my Ford truck roots.

Squirrel, I ended up getting a Lariat over a Platinum for a few reasons. The main though was the cost. 3k more for three features I really wanted, nicer leather, massaging seats, wood trim and one I didn't want. I have no desire for painted bumpers on a truck. After owning my KR F-250 and looking at all the chipped paint on the bumper, chrome is for me. Also, I prefer the non platinum tailgate and grill. I could care less about the powered running boards, I view them as something to break that I might or might not view as an improvement over stationary running boards. In my mind the equation was
(nicer leather + massaging seats + wood trim) - (painted bumpers + platinum grill & tailgate) < $3000
Can't wait for my truck to get in. I hope you enjoy yours.

Adam
