Question of the Week: Is the 10-speed in the Raptor a good idea?
They want to get these transmissons to 6th as fast as possible to save fuel, even my f250 does that. Causes a bog when driving around town. You have to accelerate to get it to downshift to a more responsive gear. Kinda annoying. Maybe they can get it into a more responsive gear and keep the engine rpm at a little more optimal point for economy with the 10 speed.
As far as the CVT goes, ATVs have moved over to them. They arent hard to modify but they really are not that durable, I think they are made to break and be fixed easily. I wouldnt want one in a truck, while you could smoke the fluid in your transmission and keep going just fine, in an ATV once you smoke a belt you will loose performance and might not make it the whole ride.

The stock tranny programming on my 2011 EB sucks. It likes hold 3rd as long as it can at low speeds and will bog till it either speeds up on you put yer foot to it. If you don't pay attention you might not notice it, once you do though it will bug you a lot. Same thing on pulling a hill at moderate speeds. It will hold 6th too long when 5th is a much better gear. I know this is all done to maximize fuel economy for the EPA test. However, the EPA test isn't very accurate to the road. Thankfully, 5* tunes are about perfect on shifting and fixed this for me.

Then, when going uphill, it seems to shift down exactly when I think it should. The engine is not "lugging" at all and it does not downshift too quickly like my old 2005 truck did. My old truck would drop into 2nd to climb 6% grades at highway speeds. My Ecoboost rarely drops below 4th gear on the same hills, and feels like it's not working at all.

In reply to above. It would be nice if they had a little more sophisticated programming to actually use all these gears. Seems like 6th is the favored gear even around town, in both my trucks.
Pulling an empty gooseneck at 4800lbs in my f250 yesterday and luckily it allows you to block out 6th gear. No complaints but even on the freeway 6th does ok but when moving through traffic blocking out 6th makes it perform a little better. Otherwise I have to force it into 3rd with the accelerator pedal when 5th does ok at freeway speeds and avoiding traffic.
