We have recently had our truck at the dealership 3 different times within 3 weeks because of the check engine light coming on. The truck is a 2015 F-150 and has less than 50K miles on it. The question I have is the first time they ran the diagnostic the code given was P2450. They replaced the canister purge valve . The second time, they said the valve wasn't plugged in. The third time the same code P2450 was given. This time they replaced the Evap control switching valve and the connector hoses. We have an extended warranty, however, they charge a $200 deductible each time and the hoses were not included because it is considered wear and tear. So, we had to pay over $600 for a truck that has less than 50k miles. It has frustrated me to no end because they charge an extreme amount for these vehicles anyway. I don't think we should have to pay 2 deductibles because this is something they should have found in the first inspection. I kind of feel like they are giving us the run around and this is not the first time we've had issues with this truck. We were lucky before that it was prior to the 36k mile warranty ran out. Any thoughts from someone with a little more experience?

It's part of the emission control system isn't it? Should be covered by the emissions equipment warranty?

 

That's covered by the Federal emissions warranty. You should not have had to pay a CENT.

 

I think it is a 3.5 liter engine. I'm not 100% certain. It's a V6.

 

Apparently that's not how they see it because it has over 36k miles. I'm gathering documentation so I can call them.

 

It is but they act like they are doing me a favor getting it covered under my extended warranty.

 

Emission equipment has a much longer guarantee required by federal law.

It looks like the evap system may only have a 3/36 warranty.

However, that is not fair hitting you for the deductible for the 2nd and 3rd visit for the same issue, and charging you for the hoses is BS.

 

I thought emission systems were covered past the standard bumper to bumper warranty. Some parts are covered up to 100,000 mi.

I was able to speak to the manager in the service department and he has given me 5 free oil changes in exchange for the second $200 deductible, so I am coming out $49 to the good. I'm still a little bummed that a new truck is already requiring service like this and the run around of having to take it to the dealership 3 times in 3 weeks but am glad that they made it right. They need to work on their customer service and research issues before releasing the vehicle to ensure it is fixed properly. Thanks for all your feedback!

 

Your dealer is doing a number on you. They screwed up the initial diagnosis, so you should not have paid the 2d or 3d deductible. Your initial post is a little unclear, but did the same problem occur under the 36k warranty? If so, everything should have been covered. Most states have lemon laws to protect against just this kind of situation: if the dealer doesn't fix it right after multiple chances, they can be forced to either buy back or replace the vehicle. I suggest you do some research, then go pound on the service manager's desk. If he doesn't refund the 3d deductible, ask for his boss. And call Ford's customer care to let them know one of their dealers is screwing up.
