Hello! I have a 2013 XLT 5.0 V8 that has around 88,000 miles on it and is paid off. There is NOTHING wrong with it. I LOVE it. However, I made the mistake of looking at the 2017's when I had to go for an oil change.

Taking money out of the equation, would you trade in the '13 for a '17 Lariat Crew Cab V8 5.0 or just get the '17 and have 2? It's just me that will drive either of them.

I don't tow or haul anything anymore, except my ***.

 

No need for two trucks. Decisions! Decisions!

 

Ikr! But, keeping both would allow me to keep a truck that has NO issues if/when the new one does... or if my ****uation changes and I needed to turn it in... not likely, but ya just never know.

 

I have 2 trucks but one is for work and a heavy duty.

Anyway I would sell the 13 out right, someone would probably hop on it pretty quickly.

If you need 2 vehicles get something different like a mpg little car or a jeep.

 

I'm retired and I have 2 vehicles, my 02 F150 in my sig and a 05 Dodge Magnum Hemi. I enjoy both if them. We use the truck to drive out on the beach a lot and the Magnum is a super vehicle to travel in and reminds me of my hot rod days. I bought my wife a new Infiniti EX37 in early 2014 so we have one newish vehicle that only has about 18k miles on it. I keep thinking about a new truck but always come back to Nope, my 02 is doing a great job.

 

A paid off truck which has nothing wrong with it is priceless!

Every 6 months I get my '09 FX4 serviced at the Ford dealer (can't beat the works package). While there I always walk around the lot. Taking my time looking, I just don't see anything that makes me want a new truck.

When I bought my '09 I went all out with just about every option available. I did this purposely so I wouldn't get the "wants" a couple years later. So far it has worked out well - been 8 years now and still love my truck.

 

Usually I get rid of an older vehicle for a newer (selling them myself) when I see a good deal after owning the older vehicle after about 5+yrs or so.

But I actually hung on to my 2002 F150 SuperCrew Lariat (13yrs) and my 2006 Lincoln LS (7yrs) too long. When I knew I wanted to upgrade for at least 2yrs prior. And ended up replacing items or having to have the dealer fix major items before I got rid of them.

Truck, 1200.00 Fuel Pump, Dealer; 400.00 I had to purchase the CalVan Tool to repair a blown plug/COP; Upper Ball Joint,..
Lincoln LS, 4k for a transmission, brakes/rotors, window regulator, and tires.

I now own a 15 F150 SuperCrew Lariat and a 13 300S. Both are great but my Truck is easy the best vehicle I've ever owned and I've owned around 20 vehicles in my time.

The upgraded features ALONE in them both is also a constant reminder, I hung on to my last 2 vehicles too long.

Also, USED Trucks go for great $$s if they're in good shape.

Sell it and pamper Yourself.

 

Ask Suzie Orman. I used to watch her show on tv. I think her auto recommendation was to keep one 13 years. She was fanatical about individuals saving for retirement.

 

I say if you're keeping it 10yrs; you may as well keep it until it collapses in the driveway while washing it

Seriously, if you own a car (or 2, in my case) and you're NOT saving $$s; you may need to rethink your transportation requirements?

With the advances in technology the past 5-10yrs for standard vehicles (GPS, TPS, Blind Spot Monitor, memory, parking/sensors, camera,..),...if one can afford it, an upgrade won't be regretted IMHO.

But the upgraded/dated features are also like anything else, "You can't miss what you've never had." IOWs, if you're totally content with what you have and you still "Love" your 8+yr old Truck, no reason to spend the $$s.

 

My Dad still has his 1971 F250 Custom... Only option on this is power brakes and the C6 Auto trans... and it's a "Camper Special"... ha, ha...




It's not his daily driver anymore, but it was back in the day... We took many a family vacation in this truck towing a TT or hauling a slide in camper... Great times...

It will be mine some day, but I hope it's a long time coming..

Anyway, all this new gizmo stuff is fun and I have some of it in my 13 F150, but sometimes it's nice to think back to how it was...

I still have not fully accepted the new F150's.. Dunno why not, but I have not even sat in one yet... Maybe that's because I would want it! Just like when I sat in my 13...

I bought my 2002 F150 Lariat Scab 4x4 5.4 in 2009 with 69k miles on it for $9500 during the recession. It now has 145k on it. It's been reliable and doesn't burn oil. If I sold it, I wouldn't be taking a big loss on depreciation considering I've owned it 8 years and it still works great. If you buy a new truck, you will suffer a $10k depreciation in the first year probably. Look at what you can afford as well as what you want. I can afford a new truck and I've been thinking about getting one but so far I just can't turn loose that much money for a want, not a need. If I was still contracting away from home, yes, I would definitely buy a new truck. But I'm retired and don't depend on it as much. However, I did drive it from NC to Wyoming and back last year on vacation putting almost 6k miles on it. It did great!

 

I live in illegal immigrant and uninsured driver central.....that is Florida. I couldn't afford two trucks because of the insurance costs. It's obvious the OP has money to burn so she should just buy an 2017 to go with her 2013. She should also buy a Dodge Challenger Hellcat too! LOL

 

It was nice in the day where one could load up the truck without step ladders to reach over the bed rails. Trucks are no longer made for people who actually use them as trucks but for those who just want to ride higher.

I know I'm a little late to the game but if I could afford the payment of a new truck I wouldn't trade in my current one. I would sell it outright then use that money towards the loan- or refinance it and use that as a 'down payment'. You'll likely get a few thousand more selling it and as long as the money you make extra is more than the tax you will pay on the full amount of the truck you'll come out ahead.
