2010 F150 A/C Issues

Asking for help here. I have done a lot of work on my ac over the 9 years i have had my truck. Resistors, blower motors every blend door etc.

My issues now are Air doesn't feel cold as it should and does not blow as hard as it used to. I have already found that my Vent/Recycle door was broken so i locked it in recycle mode position.

I have made sure Freon is correct, washed out condenser changed resistors multiple times.

I changed my defrost/vent actuator about a year ago. i sill have problem when i crank the truck it starts at defrost then back to vent.

Any comments or help will be appreciated.

The truck has 230k on it and I do my own service/repairs. Always have always will. So please don't recommend sending it to the shop.

I live in Mississippi and the summers are brutal. i cannot keep cab cool enough for my 3 small kids in back seat.

thanks again.

Maybe the orifice is partially plugged? Maybe the dryer is partially plugged?

Is this manual or automatic temperature control? Single or dual zone?

Evaporator partially blocked? I'd tear it down, replace the vent/recycle door, and clean the evaporator fins.

That may complicate things - maybe a sensor is bad. However, the low volume points to some kind of restriction.

alright so i washed out the evaporator. my airflow picked up tremendously.. I still feel like the air is not cold as it could be. i took my blower out and verified that the recycle door is closed and stuck in recycle.. which is what i want. upon acceleration i can feel the ac change to a warmer temp.. after a few seconds, it gets back colder.

Does the truck have an e-fan or mechanical clutch fan?

Some vehicles shut down the AC compressor when you floor the gas to reduce engine drag. I don't know if yours is one of them.

My 2010 FX-4 doesn't. I've never tried WOT but I do have a lead foot. Manually controlled AC. But it doesn't cool the air as much when idling as it does when driving.

That's actually pretty normal, especially if the fan is on a higher speed.

I figured that it was. AC still works fine though, no complaints. (Knock on wood!)

On newer vehicles they went away from having engine driven fans to electric fans.

I suggest getting an electric fan with either a relay or a switch and run it when you have the A/C on.

On some older pickups like some of the Dodge Rams with the Cummins I6, the fan clutch is electromagnetic, and there are mods people do that can "lock" the engine fan and then if in P or N, turn on high idle to get not only the compressor spinning faster, but also get the engine fan spinning faster to move more air. Only downside to that, is the noise - it sounds like a jet engine running parked. But you get cooler A/C.

Yeah, you do. It's a PCM-controlled clutch relay, regardless of the climate control head. Most Fords had gone to this type of setup by 2000-or so. Some way earlier, like my old 89 SHO. Some, a bit later. The PCM, based on its inputs and programming logic, has complete control over the operation of the clutch.

Original poster says he has an electric fan in his 2010, doesn't yours, Joe?
