TPMS question - 2009 & 2014 compatibility

I am looking to swap the wheels and tires between a 2009 XLT and a 2014 XL truck. Can anyone tell me...
  • Are the TPMS sensors compatible?
  • If so, will they need to be retrained?
  • If yes, can I do this myself, or does it require a tool?

  • Are the TPMS sensors compatible?
Yes (they are compatible / the same). NOTE: They changed in 2015.
  • If so, will they need to be retrained?
Probably not, but maybe yes.
  • If yes, can I do this myself, or does it require a tool?
Yes (you can do it yourself). Either with the tool (*.below) -OR- following the instructions in the owner's manual.

(owner's manual) Don't have one ?

Thank you for the information. The procedure in the 2014 manual differs from the procedure in the 2009 manual. The 2014 can be done without the tool. However, the procedure in the 2009 manual seems to require the tool. It also says that the reset procedure is only needed after rotation, and when the front and rear tires have different recommended pressures. So, I"m encouraged, but still not sure if I'll need to reset either system, and it doesn't look like I can do the '09.

I guess I have just have a go at swapping the wheels and see what happens. I suppose if I only do two of them and give it a ride, I should see if the system trips or not.

Only input I can provide is I have swapped between 3 different sets of TPM's when I changed wheel/tire combo's. All were 2014 set's, but none needed to be re-learned.
