Question Can't get in Truck...

My mother has a 2010 f-150 xlt... It has the remote on the keychain and the digital numbers on the drivers door... It doesn't get driven often and I'm assuming the battery is down... I tried her remote and mine and neither works... I tried the number code without results... So I tried the key in the drivers door and it won't turn... It's the original key and it does work on the tailgate...
Any help on getting into her truck???

Thanks, Kevin

Might take a little more force to get the key to turn in the door if it hasn't been used in 8 years. You can try some graphite powder in the key hole to lubricate things.

DO NOT spray anything in the lock like WD40 or similar

You can also try to trickle charge the battery from the big wire on the starter, that cable should go straight to the battery

If the truck isn't used much you can pretty much count on the battery being dead. Try some graphite powder in the door lock and GENTLY wiggle and twist the key in the lock. Be careful not to put too much pressure or you will break the key in the lock. If that doesn't work use a "slim jim" or call AAA

Another approach might be to open the hood, possibly with a long screwdriver or something similar. This is assuming it doesn't have a Jimmi-Jammer guard installed. If it's not guarded, you SHOULD be able to force the lock open with an appropriate tool.

Once you have the hood open, you could charge or replace the battery.

Probably doesn't have one, Joe. My truck has a key entry only in the driver's door.

Ok, what's wrong with spraying WD40 into a key lock? I've been doing it for years with all my vehicles.

WD-40 leaves a gummy residue. I use this stuff, works great in all my vehicle and home locks:

Spray it into the lock, then run the key in and out a few times. If the tumblers are stuck this will free them.

I tried the powdered graphite yesterday, no help... Going over in a couple of days and try to hook the charger up to the starter cable... It's in a retirement apt complex and I had to check and see if there were any outlets... Luckily there is one reasonable close...

Well, crap! I could have sworn that my 2010 had locks on both doors but I just went outside and looked and it doesn't!

My Maxima had a charging wire under the front left turn signal lens for situations like this but I guess Ford was too cheap to do that.

I wonder if the battery can be charged via the trailer power connector? (Assuming that the relay and fuse have been installed.)

Don't think so. In my 2014 truck, and the 2005 I had before it, the ignition switch had to be ON to complete the battery charging circuit (and none of the others would be complete either). Since he can't get into the truck, he can't move the ignition.

The battery wire to the starter (or probably the starter solenoid) seems a good bet though.
