I need help something seriously wrong with my motor

I have a 2010 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4 liter with 97,000 miles on it. Truck was running fine up until recently.
it seems every time I put it in drive or reverse and give it a little gas around the 500 to 800 RPM range it starts to get choppy, sputter and want to die out but it doesn't dial which is very odd, the funny thing is I give it a little bit of gas after that and the truck runs perfectly fine I have no idea what's going on I've talked to multiple people and they don't even know maybe somebody can help me if they had a similar problem like this any help would be much appreciated

Have the spark plugs ever been changed? At 97k they are definitely due.

I would be suspicious of the fuel pressure. Have you changed the filter and I think there is a device fpdm that is a troublemaker.

Fuel filter in a 2010 is inside the fuel tank, supposedly a lifetime filter.

Sounds like a low grade misfire.

Low fuel pressure would lead to an anemic engine under load and possibly not even capable of mid range RRPMs

I would start messing with the things everyone has been recommending. Sounds like fuel but it could be a bad MAF sensor, I've had that issue before, or it cam be dirty. If the spark plugs havent been changed, they are definetely due for replacement

It could be a cam phaser or a vct solenoid or a chain tensioner. My buddy had a similar issue with his 5.4. His ended up being both a timing chain tensioner and a phaser. If you do replace timing components, make sure you use motor craft or other reputable parts.

the lock pins inside the phasers aren't getting enough oil pressure to lock in place and your cam timing is off when this happens. Causes it to sputter and want to die. when you hit the gas oil pressure increases and the phasers lock. Maybe new solenoids. Maybe chain tensioners are leaking. Maybe chain guide is broken. Maybe parts of the chain guide are in the sump and are blocking the pickup tube. Honestly, I would change the oil to a heavier grade (Xw30 or Xw40) and see if it still happens. That will tell you if the oil pressure is a bit low in the cam gears.
