Wipers thumping the firewall
Wipers thumping the firewall
Anyone else feel the wipers thump on their limits? I feel it through the pedals, more so on the brake pedal.
Anyone have a fix for it? Or know which years didn't do it?
Thanks

I would take the wiper off the drivers side arm, attach a rag to the end of the arm and leave it up. Turn on the wipers and see if you still feel it. If it is internal on the mechanism it might be fun to access to make any adjustments. If it is external like the wiper is hitting something when it returns you might be able to get the arm off and re-position to the next spline on the shaft. But who knows.
No its in the linkage itself. I've heard of friends trucks that have the issue too, just curious how many others can feel it or have noticed it

it is probably just the vibrations transmitting through the dash to the brake pedal... might be normal.
You can check under the hood to see if there is mechanical interference with the linkage but I bet you won't find any.
You could also check the wiper bolts... maybe the motor is getting loose and thats causing more vibrations?
Of course, the easiest fix is just to take your foot off the brake pedal and not worry about it! (or install a brake light relay to disable your wipers when you push the brake pedal!)

My guess is the wiper motor and brake pedal hanger mount close to each other. If that's the case about the only fix would be to use isolation mounts for the wiper motor or learn to deal with it.
