2010 King Ranch paint bubbling

I recently noticed on the tailgate of my 2010 F150 King Ranch a small discoloration in the paint, however, when I touched it, a section of paint roughly 4x6 inches, for lack of better words, shattered leaving a gaping hole in the paint.

Taking it to the dealership, they are concerned that the paint lifting off the tailgate will continue and want to repaint the tailgate. Its worth mentioning that my truck is the White Platinum metallic tri-coat which they say adds to the cost. Oh, thats right, I have to pay for this out of pocket, to the tune of $1200.

To me, this is obviously a defect in the factory paint. The paint is literally not bonded in some places to the tailgate resulting in other bubbles.

My questions are:
1. Should Ford cover this under warranty?
2. If not, what is a REASONABLE cost to repaint?

Paint is covered under the basic warranty, which is 3/36. Therefore, this repair is not covered. Go get quotes from body shops.

Hi cucamelsmd15,

I received your PM and sent you a reply this morning; I'll look into this to see what options there are to assist.

paint

I have the same issue with my Harley Davidson 2010 AWD. Mine is on the rocker panel and right rear bumper. Was told by the dealer that the corrosion is only good from 5 years from date of manufacture. I purchased a 24000 mile bumper to bumper warranty when purchased. So now I am going to see if that will cover it.

Here is a couple good rule of thumb things to remember: 1) The 3/36 warranty doesn't cover paint or glass- if Ford chooses to help you, be grateful, if they don't, dig deep in your pockets. 2) ANYTHING you buy while sitting in the finance office while paying for your new toy, IS A SUCKER BET. Those things being said, 3-stage paint looks pretty when it's new, but fixing it is a beotch, and it will never match. Period.

Welcome to the site, haas1459! I'm the Ford Service rep around these parts. What's the current mileage on your truck? Have you heard anything else from the dealer after you mentioned the warranty you purchased?

Cucamelsmd15, Did this ever get resolved for you? I have a 2011 Platinum with paint peeling off the doors, both rockers and blisters on the tailgate. After reading this thread I guess I will be checking the back of my cab and roof line too.
