Ecoboost or 5.0 which would you choose?
Actually it seems the Eco makes 385hp and 430lb/ft when running premium fuel.

I am more than willing to line our trucks side by side on a 7% grade with 8000lb trailers in tow and show you how far out of the playing field you really are..

I'd race ya in a heartbeat! Couple friends have economy-tooters, and we have some fun now and again. The difference isn't NEARLY as vast as the eco-toot fan-boys would lead folks to believe. Hell, I can even BEAT 'em sometimes!

To the OP....
The fact that these types of threads always get the 5.0 and eco-friendly-tooter fellers in such a tizzy should tell you this: You simply can't go wrong with either!
Admittedly though, if you're towing much more than 7500 lbs on a regular basis, the ecoboost (or better yet, the 6.2) could be a better option.

If I were regularly towing much more than 7500# on a regular basis, I wouldn't be doing it with any 1/2 ton truck.
She's been a labor of love, that's fer sure. I had a '94, a '98, an '05, and this '12. It's absolutely amazing how vast the improvements are from one generation to another. I can't imagine improving upon the '12 very much. At the same time, it excites me to see what the next installment will be like!

However, if the OP (or anyone) is dead-set on a half-ton to regularly tow that much, the EB or, better yet, the 6.2 would be my recommendation.
I personally would look for a good used truck with a V-10 if it didn't need to be a daily driver. The V-10 is a better towing motor than the 6.2 but the gas mileage is awful with no load. Towing, it probably gets similar mileage to the 6.2. If I got really lucky, I might be able to find one with a manual transmission.
Agreed, it's not tacky and over the top. Very clean and mean looking. I had a '03 with the deep wedgewood blue and loved it when it was clean. Otherwise it felt like I owned a black truck. Seemed to get dirty within and hour unless I Cali Car Dusted it or quick detailed it.
