5.0L or 6.2L
5.0L or 6.2L
Just want to ask what is the better engine? I'm thinking of upgrading to a new 2013 fx4. I've had a 2004 fx4 with the 5.4L and I now have and since new a 2010 xlt with the 5.4L love this truck but its time to upgrade. I do tow with the truck and I do a lot of hunting with my truck. I am also thinking of lifting the new truck 6" and putting 37"x13.5"x R18s. So what would be a good engine for me?
6.2l
6.2 all day. With the towing and the tires you'll need the better low end punch. Dont get me wrong. I have the 5oh and for a screw with 20's it moves pretty good. I bet that would really change with those big tires.
^^ Wow! One of you has an anomaly.
OP, I wouldn't recommend 37s unless you're doing some serious regearing, etc. If you're dead-set on it, go with the 6.2. If you're towing anything reasonable whatsoever, the 5.0 handles most loads very well.

If you plan on doing a good amount of towing and its going to be a decently heavy amount, and fuel mileage is not a main concern....then the 6.2 for sure. Plus you will have plenty of power so you can have some fun on side.
If you don't towing a heavy weight amount and you are concerned more with fuel mileage then I'd recommend the 5.0
Hope this helps.

From what I've been reading in the AVERAGE mpg fields, I'd go with the 5.0L. I believe BlueJay says hes getting 19-21mpg highway while the few 6.2L threads are getting about 12-15 highway.
But if you've got cash burning in your wallet, I'd opt for the 6.2L. Just be aware of the higher operating expenses: spark plugs, wires, etc

Im getting 19 in my 5.0 scab with 50/50 highway/street driving (with a 4 inch cat back)
Hit 21 once purely highway....3.73 rear

I was wondering if you were going to say that. Everybody was talking about fuel economy, and nowhere in your OP did you mention that. But mentioning a lift and 37s was my first hint that you weren't worried about fuel economy.

Again, if you're dead set on the lift, 37s, etc, I'd do a regear for whichever engine you choose. The good news is that the EB, 5.0, and 6.2 are all great engines in their own ways. So you can't lose, really.
I would go 5.0 over 6.2 in that there are more mods for it due to mustang background, it will get better MPG (even though that doesnt matter to you its still a plus), you can use the $3490 you save by not going 5.0 to 6.2 (according to ford.com) and put that towards gears, lift and tires. While they are both real good motors, the 6.2 use brute strength while the 5.0 uses technology.
