Ate a Hemi???????
Fellas I had an interesting encounter this morning on the way to the office.
I am a cruiser by nature, I like to lock it in at 70 or 72 depending on traffic, get in my lane and go. I try not to be too judgmental of people speeding. This morning I watched a gentleman screaming down the feeder in a new quad cab hemi. Had to break check himself as there was a sherriff sitting on the ramp here on I-10. I am in the left lane going 70. I stopped paying attention until two headlights appear behind me and then disappear as this dodge is practically on my ****. Keep in mind there is a perfectly good HOV lane one more lane over to the left. I calmly move over and as he comes up beside me, I have the window down, stare at him and punch it. Fellas, I heard him drop the hammer and light those pipes up. I will be GD'd if I didn't pull three truck lengths on him before bouncing off the rev limiter!!!! WTH? At 70 MPH I cant believe this little 5.0 was pulling so hard! He got up next to me, saluted me and moved on down the road as I took my exit. Was this seriously a legit kill? LMAO if it was, cause this 302 is definitely the little motor that could.

That's awesome! I just did the same thing in my EB to a 5.0 FX4 on I-35 north of Des Moines. Except I didn't hit rev limiter, I just pulled away from him and left him with the 'WTF just happened' look!
hat idiot just take off like that. I've driven the Ecoboost and own a 5.0 now. The Ecoboost has no ***** after 3700 RPMs. There is no way you would pull a ton of a 5.0 after 60mph. The 5.0 screams after 3500 RPMs.
Its possible the Ecoboost I drove wasn't operating correctly, but I had it for a month and time after time it didn't like high RPMs on the highway after punching it. Just felt like it had nothing. Now takeoff, I could see you pulling a 5.0 by 4 to 5 truck lengths. Is it possible the Fx4 was a '10 5.4?
Mainly I was just being ornery by posting. Every time someone has blown my doors off, or I've blown their doors off, it was due to being the first person to have your foot to the floor. Unless the vehicles are very lopsided in bhp, the race is over before it properly starts. This of course is only racing on sanctioned and approved courses or tracks. I don't condone illegal street racing.
By the time the other person on the road notices you are accelerating, the race is already over.
Anyway, I'm very satisfied with the EB's acceleration at highway speeds. In fact, now I'm gonna scrounge around and find an acceleromoter to hook up to the Hydac instrumentation at work and plot out the truck's acceleration.

Well, it doesn't make a ton of noise around the upper RPM's. The turbo's are already spooled and you're making good power. If you watch the speedo, that tells a different story. I kinda felt the same way, but just like the author of this thread I worked a charger doing the same thing. I ended up toying with him for about 5 miles. He'd ride up on my bumper at 65mph, then he'd gun it switch lanes and I would nail it by watching my rearview mirror. I put 3 lengths on him EVERY time. I'd blast it to about 95 mph then let off. He'd have to get behind me due to traffic and I'd work him all over again. The EB is quiet quick where as the 5.0 & 6.0 have the standard V8 growl. The 5.0 is very good once the mass is rolling.
Word
I have a friend with an Eco FX4. I would really like to do a few runs with him from a stop and on a roll. Those Eco's have rave reviews and make some impressive numbers. I am pretty sure he is running a 3.73 in that FX4. I have the 3.31. I figure that 3.73 with torque of the turbos is going to get up and walk away. I think at 65 it's going to be a different story. Hope to find out soon!
Take two identicle running trucks, same weight, etc .... side by side, punch one 2 secs before the other and all the way up through the speed range they are capable of, it'll be 2 secs ahead of the other one, meaning it'll be running 90 mph 2 secs befopre the other one, as well as 91 / 92 / etc. It will appear to pull steadily away and once they reach top end, it'll reaxch it 2 secs before the other one and once both are topped out and run topped out 459 miles, they'll be 2 secs apart .... all else being 100% equal.Take same two trucks, all other things equal 100%, start them from dead stop, spotting the one 2 secs again. When they top out at ... assume 120 mph is max .... one will reach 120 2 secs earlier than the other and once both top out at exactly 120 mph, the leader will lead by 176 feet.

Still, it was fun reading the story!

*sigh* Here we go again.

During the encounters I've had with an EB with me 'n my inferior 5.0, not one of the EBs have "walked" my truck...pitiful and puny as it is.
Again, the Ford peeps just flat got it right with all the engines this time around.
