2013 HID headlight retrofit

One of my beefs on my 2012 FX4 has been the anemic headlights. I see the HID's are an option on the 2013's. Anyone have an educated guess or factory knowledge if it would br an "easy" retofit? Plug and play? or is it going to be an electrical mess to do.

Thanks,

Mark

I believe i read that the new oem hid's are going to be all inclusive inside of the housing(i.e. the ballast is in the headlight housing). So they should be relatively plug and play. However, the bigger issue will most likely be cost. The oem hid's for a mustang, for example, run $700 a light. Thats right, $1400 for a pair. I would be more worried about cost than installation....

I hope they're adaptive bi-xenon's.

What do you mean "adaptive"? I have yet to hear if they will be auto-leveling. I kind of doubt it since AL is an ECE (European) requirement, not a DOT requirement. But I do believe (it would be stupid for them not to) put adjustable leveling system in it. IE: You have a **** with 1-4 or so (like your A/C) that adjusts the height of it. Would be perfect for when you are towing.

To the OP: Yes they will be interchangeable, but I have doubt whether you will be able to power them the original way. I'm willing to bet the ballasts will be controlled via the BCM. I can be wrong here, but since Ford seems to put every little thing on the BCM (e fans, window motors, etc) I'm willing to bet this is the same way. Now saying that, you could probably buy some adapters and run it directly to your headlight switch with some wire splicing.

Only time will tell.

What would be really nice is somehow adapt the auto-leveling part to our retrofits.

several members over on Ford Raptor Forum already have a set in hand or have a set on order. They won't be PNP, but it shouldn't be 'an electrical mess', and the prices I have seen thrown around over on FRF put them around 700/side w/out ballasts or bulbs or harnesses.... There is still a lot of speculation though.. FRF has so many insiders though that it is worth checking out

Adaptive headlights move side to side when you turn the steering wheel. It makes a big difference.

GRAND TOTAL of =
$1420 Counting EVERYTHING. *If you buy cheaper bulbs elsewhere.

If you buy the bulbs from the dealer add another $500. to that TOTAL.

*The only part that is needed that is NOT available yet is the headlight bulb retainer. There are two screws on the projector to secure the bulb. The retainer is on national backorder.

Here you go mark, all plug and play for your 2012 truck. I custom make these myself.
