2012 FX4 Price Help

Hey everyone - I've lurked this forum for a long time and there seems to be a lot of valuable information. I searched before posting this to get a feel for what other's have paid (and to try and not come off as "that guy") and I don't think I'm far off but wanted a second (or third, fourth, etc) opinion before I finally make a decision here.

2012 FX4 Sterling Gray
SCREW
5.0
Luxury Package
Tailgate step (hoping they will swap this out for bed extender)
Trailer brake controller.

Dealer is quoting MSRP at $44,160 (accurate according to Nada)
Invoice at $40,573 (dealer is high here compared to Nada - $39,871)

What they are offering....

$40,573 - $700 - $4000 rebates = $35,873 (this is before tax/title)

It's not bad but I was hoping to hit $10k off sticker. I've been wanting an F150 for well over a year now but I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with not getting taken advantage of at the dealer.

Thanks in advance everyone. I'm also in Arizona so if any fellow SW members have a dealer suggestion I'm all ears.

They can't take the tailgate step off as it is built into the tailgate. Ask for the OEM stowable bed extender to sweeten the deal.

Oh I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm really not a fan of the tailgate step at all especially the handle thing that raises up (although I remember seeing a member on here remove that).

Thanks for the heads up bluegreen.

Many people have not been fans of the step before they bought the truck but later loved it after they starting using it. I wish I had one. The bed extender can be added.

I just purchased a 2012 F150 XLT CrewCab 4x4 with MaxTow package and the Ecoboost last Friday. With X-Plan and rebates, I was down over 10K from MSRP. I also got a premium Ford ESP (7 years/100,000 miles) included, as well as an extremely good trade-in amount for my '07 F150. This is from a dealer I have used for my past purchases over the years. Good luck on your purchase.

Thanks! I've noticed the deals on XLT's are quite a bit more aggressive than other models looks like you got a great deal.

I just received the OTD price and it involves $120 in gas and a huge advertising assessment fee. Are you kidding me? I'm going to buy a 40k truck and I can't get a tank of gas?

I call shenanigans on both of those items! That stuff should be free - that's why they mark things up and sell at profit - to cover overhead like that!

I agree John. It's a bit of a slap in the face.

Well I'm definitely going to shop around more. At least I have a place to start.

I bought a loaded FX4, (NAV and everything else) sticker was about 48K, they took almost 8K total off that, then we worked in extra stuff like spray in bedliner, Access cover/mud flaps and I got a good deal on those. They gave my 22K for my 08 Tundra with 70,000 miles. I think I got a very good deal. I'm happy and that good enough for me! Good luck.

I have never bought a new vehicle where they didn't include a full tank of gas, and usually the first oil change, as part of their service. The dealer I buy from has always done this for any new vehicle that rolls off of their lot.

Gas and advertising are both billed to the dealer as part of the invoice.

Same.

No tank of gas at purchase is as dumb as a fart in a spacesuit.

When I was selling cars, you were lucky to get enough gas to make it down the street to the gas station.

The delivery of my new truck took an extra half a day because the dealer was having issues with their fuel pumps. They didn't want to give it to me without a full tank of gas.

I also ordered a 2012 FX4 S/Crew with MSRP at $43,750. Dealer invoice was $40,235. They wouldn't go lower than $41,400 but gave me a heck of a deal on my trade + $4000 in rebates + I got the $750 coupon from Ford. They also got me a great local deal on a spray-in bedliner and ford factory wheel well liners at a much lower than the prices if bought directly from Ford.

I still have not received the truck but the dealership guarantees the Ford rebates that are offered at the time of order, unless they are better when it is delivered (so I basically get to choose).
