GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential providing added grip when you need it
Bright sill plates
Available Z71 Appearance Package: 18" aluminum wheels, body-color mirrors and door handles, body-color grille with chrome insert, Z71 gauge cluster, bright sill plates, unique Z71 decals, and Rancho® shocks.

The FX4 comes with standard skid plates, off road tuned shocks, and an electronic locking rear differential. The reality is they are both the same thing targeted at the same people-incrementally more off-road capability for weekend warriors. If you want a true off road machine you buy a raptor or a jeep.
Automatic rear locker would be nice in the fx4.

what i meant was, my lariat rode better on and off road than the Z71 i had. of course my Z71 had regular shocks, lariat has coil overs. coilovers usually do ride better.

point being, i had one, wasnt to impressed on or off road compared to my ford and the chevy warranty service is horrible. (although fords has gone downhill too)

most the people that i know that own chevys that actually go off roading in them dont opt for the Z71, they just get the 4x4. from 5 years of owning one prior to my ford, i think Z71 is an over-hyped, overpriced, under performing option IMHO.

i also find it funny how many chevy owners i run into that have no clue what the Z71 even means. i have had MANY tell me "oh, Z71 is 4x4." i guess in their world all 4x4s are Z71s?

I know there is also a Z60 that i believe is the adjustable off road suspension.... there is also a Z66, im not sure what that one is.

Also, not to derail the thread, but I have a couple things I want to rant about for a second. First, why in the hell doesnt ford put a normal console in the XLt F150? They put it in the XLT Expeditions and Superduties, just not the F150. That half *** excuse for a console in the XLT's annoys the hell outta me. Second, why does every manufacturer assume that if you want creature comforts like auto HVAC and heated seats you also want leather? I live somewhere that it gets to be **** cold, and I dont want leather. But I would love heated seats and Auto HVAC. Okay, rant over.
You could get the heaters on Ebay for about $80.00 and install them under your cloth seats. Check out this link.

Yeah Z71 just stands for the option code. Like Z28
There are 2WD Z71's.
I like the FX2 because it has less chrome.

I'm looking to buy an FX2, I think it has the best looking interior, I want the floor shifter and console but don't like the wood look in the Lariat. I also like the monotone exterior with the smoke lights, has a very sporty look. I do thing Ford should just use FX instead of FX2 for the sticker.

Recently purchased a 2012 fx2, bought because it was way cheaper than the fx4. Btw, I also got a discount through x plan that gave me the truck for pretty much the price off the white work trucks.

I have a 2012 FX2. I think everyone covered the different reasons why people buy the FX2 or FX4. By the way my FX2 also says Sport under it. You can buy any decals you want to say what you want. Both trucks have that sporty look, so does the STX. I like the gauges and center console plus the appearance package including the smoked lights and the grill. I have owned several mustangs and this truck kinda gives me the best feel of both worlds. I know its not a car, but it is beasty fun to drive and will haul A** when you want it too. Plus I bought the super cab due that I like the full bed usage and it has somewhat of a sexy sleek look over the full 4 doors. The full 4 doors are probably more practical if you have a large family which i don't so i love it. Also I don't need a 4wd here where I live, but did opt for 3.55 gears and E-lock. The biggest winter weather threat here is freezing rain or black ice which 4wd wont really help, they just slide backwards on hills with all 4 wheels spinning instead of two. If one really needs 4wd then by all means I would by the FX4. I honestly just didnt see the need for the extra cost. If we had more severe winters here I would have definitely bought the FX4, but I do love my FX2 by far the nicest vehicle I have ever owned, and I love my Borla setup on my truck. Sounds awesome.
