Why Purchase and FX2?
It's more than the interior. It's the whole exterior package as well. Some of us have no use or need for a 4x4. I would not want the hassle or maintenance of a 4x4 ifit were a free option. However, I almost bought an FX2, but it got away from me.
A truck is not a truck unless it's a 4x4?? That's like saying a donut is not a donut unless it has jelly in it...(no I'm not a cop) its preference bro. When I was shopping I saw all of them and chose the FX2 cause I liked it. That's why I buy things..... cause I like them!!! I could have gone with 4x4 but why? I would never use it and I still use the TRUCK for hauling and it has a 5.4L don't forget that little gem!

the reasoning is the same, exterior and interior. drivetrain wise you can get any set up you want the same between all the models now.
I just ordered a FX2, I think it looks better than the XLT, and I wanted leather,NAV and the center console all of which you can not get in the XLT. As far as 4X4, I can't tow 11,300lbs with a car so I bought a truck. I don't go off roading, they are more to maintain and less gas milage. So to me my FX2 F150 "Truck" is perfect for me.
A Ford truck is a Ford truck. I have a 2010 Supercrew XLT 4X4. Did not need a FX4. At the same time I like the FX2 & the FX4. I bought what I wanted. I am not one to flame, but at the same time saying a truck is not a truck unless it is a 4X4 is just crazy talk. My site truck at work is a 1989 F150 XL 4X2. I have been driving it for 14 years. I will bet anything you want to bet it has seen a rougher life than your truck has and it only has 22K miles on it.
I would venture to guess 95% of lifted trucks are Mall Crawlers or Street Queens anyway.
You can get those options in a lariat or xlt also. This is really a 4x4 vs. 4x2 tread because that is the only difference between FX4 and FX2. The FX package is just a sportier looking package but available with most of the options a Lariat offers.
For me the FX4 was the sweet spot in terms of options. I prefer cloth, so that rules out the Lariat and above. I like sunroofs and REAL center consoles, so that rules out the XLT and lower. Hence, I would buy an FX2 if i was in the market for a 2wd truck.
Also, not to derail the thread, but I have a couple things I want to rant about for a second. First, why in the hell doesnt ford put a normal console in the XLt F150? They put it in the XLT Expeditions and Superduties, just not the F150. That half *** excuse for a console in the XLT's annoys the hell outta me. Second, why does every manufacturer assume that if you want creature comforts like auto HVAC and heated seats you also want leather? I live somewhere that it gets to be **** cold, and I dont want leather. But I would love heated seats and Auto HVAC. Okay, rant over.

The question should really be- wouldn't a lift be more useful if you go offroad?

For the sake of this thread I guess the common answer was people get the FX2 because of the FX appearance package. This is pretty much what I figured.
I 100% do not need 4x4. I hate chrome so the ptm bumpers and mirrors are great. The interior of mine is perfect. The fx2 and fx4 are the best looking f150's every year I would never get any other model. (I had a 2007 xlt and hated the chrome)
I can't afford an FX2 or FX4 so I've got the poor mans STX, because I don't want the chrome. I got 4wd this time around but I haven't used it much, even here in MA.
If you don't need 4wd, why would you carry around all of thoes heavy componants that require the burning of more fuel, and slow you down?
A 2wd is a better platform for hot rodding as well.
