I have the Ecoboost and LOVE it! Both will get up and go for ya it just depends on what you want to listen to while accelerating. The Eco is like driving an electric truck and the 5.0 just sounds bad *** (especially with an aftermarket exhaust). But im getting older now and just prefer the nice quite ride of the Ecoboost.. Either one is a winner in my opinion!!

Love the EB, if you are coming from a 04-08 f150, chevy any gas motor, Dodge same, you can jump right into an EB F-150 And be faster/ tow more and be happier with out doing any mods. Had to explain to a few people the Ecoboost emblem on the door doesnt mean Flexfuel.

I have a 2011 Super Crew with 5.0 and 3.55 axle. If I had to do it over again, I'd try to find one with 3.31 axle for a couple reasons:

1) 1st gear is WAY too low, almost useless. In fact it might be too low even with a 3.08 axle.
2) My gas mileage with no load is 10% less than advertised.

I might also take the time to drive a truck with the 3.7 engine, but all the trucks on my dealer's lot had the 5.0 or 3.5 EB, except for the very basic models. And I'll probably be glad I got the 5.0 and 3.55 I ever get a travel trailer.

Mike_B, I think the low gear is more a result of the six-speed tranny. It is a quick shift to get the load moving.... with any axle ratio. See many posts on this.

As for the 3.55, you should be getting the better mileage over all, except the 3.11, which I not sure is available with what combinations.

5.0 and love it. EB is most likely great but I spent a lot on my '09 to get the sme exhaust note I have on this one......and this one runs like a scalded ape.

High of over 20mpg on road trips and.....did I tell you this thing runs and sounds great?

Just my own opinion so im not knocking any EB owners, but why buy a full size pickup truck with a v6 ? My 4.6l 3v gets just about the same mpgs as an EB also

That's all understood, but your 4.6L won't come close pulling a large trailer or large load. If it was just about fuel economy, I couldn't agree more.

Somebody had to go there. To the OP, don't let the # of cylinder sway you. Just remember a Cummins diesel is a turbo 6cyl.

The upside: Good look's, 20.1 mpg highway at 70 mph, I love the electric power steering, lot's of power when I need it, great factory exhaust note.

The downside: The interior rattles as bad as my '05 Nissan Titan. I'm very disappointed about this fact. And of course, no rattles can be heard when it goes to the dealer. They magically reappear when I pull out of the dealer service dept. The passenger seat shakes uncontrollably when it is vacant. I actually have to turn the stereo up to drown out the noise. The tail-lamps and 3rd brake light fill with water after every wash or rainfall.

It's also this funny thing called a diesel. I think you're stretching the comparison.
