2011 FX4 whining in 4 wheel Drive

I have 2500 miles on my new FX4 and engaged the four wheel drive for the first time last night, I was off road (in the yard) and noticed that something just didn't sound right. I took the truck to a dirt road this morning and have a whining sound with the 4x4 in high. The noise is more pronounced while accelerating. If anyone else has the same problem please post and let me know what you have found. I would like to be loaded when I hit the service department.

Thanks.

Mine does (or did the same thing, haven't really noticed it lately, but it was never that loud to begin with), and I think most of them do, just natural I guess. Do a search for this issue, I think its been brought up before.

My XLT did it until I drove about 200 miles w/4WD engaged.

Haven't heard it since and it wasn't that worrisome to begin with.

I believe the manual says you may hear a whining noise while in 4wd. I'm nowhere near my truck to verify that right now.

I just skimmed through the 4WD parts of the 2011 F-150 owner's manual, and only read it mentioning noises related to switching to 4HI and 4LO.

My last 4wd was a 1997 Chevy K1500, and I didn't notice anything out of the norm from it in 4wd. I haven't had my 2011 F-150 in 4wd for any longer than it took to engage and disengage while sitting still (haven't had an excuse for using 4wd for real yet), so I'm just going off of what I read in the OM.

I meant to post about this as well, my truck as the same issue, especially under acceleration. I also don't remember my old F-150's not disengaging until the truck was going under about 35 mph, I think I might make a post instead of hijacking though.

I've had this sound in my truck since new and it's still there after a 1.5 years. I posted about it here...

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...elerating.html

Here's a video I did to demonstrate it. Don't worry, I don't normally drive on pavement in 4WD. I only did it this one time to make this video with minimum road noise. I kept in a straight line while 4x4 was engaged.

Seadragon,

If I didn't know better I would say that you made that video with my truck.

If you have this problem with a truck built 1.5 years ago there should be some type of solution from Ford by now. However, I would bet that when I walk into the service department with this issue they display the typical deer in the headlights look and say this is the first time they have seen this problem.

I checked my 4x4 the day I picked up my truck and I have to say my 05 and 11 fx4 is dead quiet.

Same problem on F150 4x4 Whinning noise

Smokediver I have the same issue. Just purchased a new 2011 F150 Larait and engaged the 4 wheel drive and noticed right off I had a whinning/whistling noise only under acceleration when in 4 wheel drive. Took it to the dealer Tuesday and they found a cracked rear drive shaft and thought that was the problem. Got the truck back Wednesday and still has the same nosie. Headed back to the dealer next week. Truck has 1800 miles on it but has done this since the begining. Will let you know how things go. Don't hold out much hope after reading through these post.

Is this an actual issue or is it normal? If several vehicles have the same noise then I would maybe think it's normal. I have a 2010 FX4 and I believe my truck has the same noise.
