If by that you mean results slightly less reliable than a Ouija board you are spot on!

Thank you for reminding me. I was going to post how with mostly city driving I'm getting right around 19 mpg (much better than rated) and with strictly highway driving I'm getting high 20's (also much better than rated). The only problem I've had with the truck is the Microsoft sync (but that is not confined to the ecoboost). I've had to reset it once and every once in a while it doesn't load properly. I keep forgetting that if you feed the troll they only get bigger.

Turbo lag is minimal, mileage posted is best case senerio. I hit 20 mpg on a 40-50 mile trip already (furthest ive gone so far). Average between 17-18.5 mpg mix driving. Compared to my 2005 5.4 which got 12-14 mpg I cant complain what so ever. I beleive no matter what motor your get on the 2011 line up you cant go wrong.

My son is looking to trade his '11 3.7L 'Stang for a truck next year and he is looking at the 5.0L engine due to it's mod-ability and it's exhaust note.

Are your mpg numbers coming from the avg computer or from basic math? I ask this because I am currently receiving 18.9 mpg combined and 20.1 mpg highway mileage on E10 Shell or E10 Phillips 66 gas using basic math.

My avg comp will go as high as 27.5 mpg at 55 mph.

Thanks, James

Well I think this filled the "Bash the EB or 5.0" thread quota for the day! One way or another someone thinks they know more about something they don't have or have nothing to do with than someone who does and uses it everyday

If we all believed what "we heard" or "read" or "i know someone who has a friend whose 2nd cousin twice removed", we'd all be in a lot of trouble and the world would have already ended twice

Everyone has different preferences and needs for what they feel is best for them. I think it's hilarious how we almost rarely read an EB owner having negative things to say about the 5.0, but people with 5.0 having negatives to say about the EB seem to grow bigger by the day. BOTH powerplants are GREAT and have a leg up on most of the other manufacturers out there. It blows me away how people with the same truck aside from the motor get so upset and bash each other. Ridiculous.

When it comes to people complaining about their vehicles on a car forum, I use the fish analogy. When you actually catch the fish it might be 2lbs, when you get to the dock it's 5lbs, and when you get home it's 10lbs. Same goes here. Small various issues get blown WAY out of proportion and are far exaggerated from reality most of the time. You also have to remember that maybe 10% of ALL F-150 owners may post on a forum. To say that a vehicle or drivetrain is a problem or issue based on that is laughable at best.

If you want FACTS, then talk to someone who actually owns one or drives one on a regular basis. I drove both powertrains for weeks before committing to my EB and for ME it blew the 5.0 away in USABLE powerband. I don't care at all about peak power numbers. I want usable powerband and the EB has much more of that than the 5.0 does in that 1500-3500 range where 90% of your driving occurs. Again just MY preference.

My FX2 SuperCrew EB w/ 3.55 gears gets 17.5 in town all day long and consistenly gets 21.0-21.6 at 74mph on the interstate. I've got over 8k miles on mine and probably 80% of that is highway and that is all hand calculated as I have to submit my mileage to my employer and the IRS. I keep spreadsheets and detailed records of all fillups and how each tank was used. Take it for what you will and what it's worth, but my EB has met or exceeded every expectation I have had for it. The rest of the truck has done the same.

Excellent post. BTW, I'm a totally happy 5.0 owner, but I agree with everything you said.

Heres the deal.
I had a 2006 5.4l f150. Never did better than 14mpg.

I just purchased a 2011 ecoboost.
I dont drive any differently and dont pay attention to what the dash says im getting on mileage.

17mpg city
20mpg city/highway.

took a trip from California to salt lake city, ut.

85mph average at 20mpg.
All I can say is, its done me right.

Im a muscle car guy, i've mainly owned mustangs. Making a switch to a tuboed 6 was a tough decision but im saving enough money to feel good about it. The truck is quiet, rides well, has the same power and tq as a v8 so im content.

I like that ford is tearing it up with new technologies. Im all for it and I enjoy watching everybody try to justify their purchases to each other. its funny to me and makes my day go by faster at work.

I will also add that my truck has had ZERO problems.
If your in the market to look at an ecoboost do your self a favor and drive the 5.0 and ecoboost a few times before you make a decision.

As for me, the truck met my needs. My Mustang woke up the kids every morning when I left for work and I needed to get some decent mileage all while needed to haul stuff to my customers.
