Dealer warranty coverage question

I have a 2010 F150 Platinum I bought from a Ford dealer 25 miles down the road, Kanata Ford, when the local Ford dealer literally across the road from my house, McAllister Ford in Arnprior Ontario did not stock this model.

Today I went across the road to ask about warranty service on my power mirrors (driver side not folding..).

Their service department told me, I have to return to the selling dealer because they would not get paid for my warranty coverage.
Is this BS or what?

I have no problem with that, just wanted to give some service to the local business.... Won't make that mistake twice....

That's BS. Any dealer can do the warranty on it. They just don't want to.

complete BS.

a warranty would be almost useless if that was the case.

I would use that as a sign that you'd be better off driving the 25 miles to a dealer who actually wants your business

Canada is considered international......and warranty policies for international dealers are different from that of those in the states.....so yes one dealer can deny the warranty and send you back to the seller....

I know a lot of Harley riders that have gone through this bs up there in Canada....

I just lodged a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau against McAllister Ford:

Filed against :
Mcallister Ford Sales Ltd.
5362 Madawaska Blvd.
Arnprior ON K7S 3H2

Complaint Description:
Requested warranty service November 8, 2011 at 11:30am on my 2010 Ford F150 Platinum bought at another dealer, Kanata Ford.

McAllister Ford did not stock this model at time of purchase, November 2010.

I was told by service desk employee Mark McTeer, "I really should take it to the "purchase dealer" because McAllister Ford would have trouble getting reimbursed for warranty work on a truck not purchased from them."

I'm pretty sure this is not the case with valid Ford of Canada warranty claims and I am irked at the treatment this Ford dealer has issued to a Ford consumer.

Your Desired Resolution:
Acknowledgement and apology for their error.

This case will be reviewed by a complaint specialist at the Better Business Bureau, and then forwarded to the business for their response. It is our policy to allow the business 30 working days to respond to your complaint. You will be notified when the business has responded.

That may be true, so we'll see how they respond to the BBB complaint process that was initiated.

I had the same problem, I bought my 2011 FX4 at Dan Murphy Ford in Manotick, I am from Pembroke but my hometown dealer Murphy Ford couldnt meet the same deal Dan Murphy offered me. 3 months after I bought my truck I had some electrical issues with my truck, I took it to Murphy Ford in Pembroke and they said "we cant look at your truck for 3-4 weeks, its best if you take it back to the dealer you purchased it from, and we wont give you a loaner or a rental until we know whats wrong with your truck and have a work order". Basically my hands were tied and I had to get it towed to Manotick, 100 miles away, on my dime!

The BBB is as useless as ***** on a boar hog.

They are gonna write a letter and wait for the answer back from the dealer, if the dealer chooses to answer the letter at all.

Good thang it doesn't cost anything to file a complaint.

It does show all concerned parties how upset the filing party is, tho.

Yup, I called and wrote directly to Ford Canada, they said "there is nothing we can do", needless to say I was VERY frustrated with my unusable $60,000 3 month old truck...

Something to be said about paying a bit more to prevent hassles........

Something to be said about "there's a sucker born every minute..."
and sadly many dealers have to much in common with PT Barnum sales techniques...

Exactly. BBB told me if my complaint wasn't answered within 14 days then my case would be closed. Basically the BBB holds no actual power and certain
business people know this. The way I got some action about getting the paperwork needed for a tag was to contact the State of Tennessee Dept. of
Consumer Affairs. My problem was cleared up within 4 days. I'd give Ford Canada a call.

This all sounds like total BS. As a constant lurker on this forum, and a potential future buyer, I am very interested to see how this plays out. What if you are on vacation somewhere far away from your local dealer, and you have a breakdown that would be covered under warranty. Are you supposed to get your vehicle towed to your local dealer? If I drove to Florida and had a problem there, would this vehicle need to towed back to New Brunswick to get fixed. I think your stealership is taking you for a ride.

I bought my 2009 Toyota Highlander from a dealership 350km away and I've had no problems addressing warranty concerns at my local dealer.

In the states it's a non-issue. He's in canada, and apparently there are different rules.
