Took a couple of Ecoboosts to the track tonight....(vids)

We took my FX4 Eco and my buddy's FX2 to get some baselines on them. My best was a 15.26@90.22 w/ 2.25 60'. This was with a 2" level and 33.25"x12.50 20" terra grapplers installed. (ie major weight)

His stock FX2 w/ 3.55s and stock 20" wheels/pirellis ran a best (only one) 14.88@92.87 mph w/ 2.12 60'. Here is the video of us running:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzQlV..._order&list=UL

I only ran a 15.30@90.70 against him in that vid due to a slight tire spin.(2.3x 60')

My 15.26 run:

The air was horrible, it was around 90*, 67% humidity. DA was +2313. I think in some good winter air I should be able to go 15.00s....thats before the mods begin......Keep in mind this is a 5800lb truck on 33"s and heavy wheels....Not too shabby..

Yeah that was the only 14 sec pass he made, last one of the night.... He went a 15.05, 15.12, 15.30. He made a big jump on the last pass after about 40 min cool down...

Nice! 15.2 on 33's is stout. How did you run the truck, meaning.. 4x4 hi with boosted launch, 2wd boosted launch, 2wd in tow haul, etc..

Is that boost being displayed in the stock info screen? If so, how'd you do that?

That's his phone on one of those bluetooth OBD2 adapters. Rev and Torque are some of the apps. It's been discussed a couple times....I wanna try it too, lol

Of course the obligatory question has to be 'how good was your mileage'?!?

FYI...

I was launching in 2wd, traction control off (and on, made no diff), launch around 1900-2000 rpms, about 4-5 psi of boost. Left the truck in DRIVE and let it shift itself. I didnt get to test the Tow/Haul mode. We only got 4 passes and I was trying to get it consistant....it would either spin the tires from too much boost on the launch or kind of bog down with not enough boost on the launch.... I ran a 15.26, .30, .32, .40. MPH was always 90.22-90.70. Its very depending on getting the boost up on the launch and not spinning.... Even one or two turns of the tire would kill the 60'.

My buddy's FX2 was considerably quicker from the launch and 330'.... on his last pass (the one in the video) he pulled me all the way down the track. That was some kind of freak pass because he ran a 15.05, .12, .30 before and finally on the pass it manned the F up and dropped 2 tenths and picked up 2 mph. No doubt it will go 14.60s in the winter air.... Fast *** truck, especially for a heavy crew cab, loaded out.

Correct that is my phone sitting up on the gauge cluster. I had it on the dash and you can see it fall off on the launch on the first vid.

I am using the PLX Kiwi WiFi OBDII scanner and the REV app for iphone. This setup sux. Its basically 2-3 sec delay so any info you are getting, you get it late. I will be sending the PLX back for a refund.

My buddy in the FX2 has the Innovate OTC and the Logworks app for Iphone and it worked much better then mine, the data logs are much better and user friendly. It still has a slight slight delay but much better then mine.... Or I may just buy a boost gauge and mount it. I like the data logging feature though....works good at the strip for figuring out what you are doing.

Well it looks like those ecoboosts launch hard for a truck with those 60 foot times. I brought my 6.2 4x4 lariat to the track last week and all I was getting was 2.33 to 2.37 60 foots. I ran a 15.09, 15.20, and a 15.23 all at 92 to 93 mph. The da for those runs was 2519, so it is similar to what you encountered. Corrected, my best run came out to 14.62 at 96. I can't wait until fall to get some good air and try to get that number.

Yours was a strong runner as well.... good MPH. You have MPH for 14.80s..its just soft out of the hole... Maybe you have taller tires killing the gear?

By my best guess-ta-mates, if I would have had my much lighter, much smaller stock 18" wheels/tires on, I would have ran 14.90-14.95@92+ last night, all else being equal. I have added about 200 lbs worth of wheels/tires, that is about 2 -2.5 tenths right there, plus the increased wind drag of the 305s on a 9" wheel...not to mention these are 33.25" vs. 32" even which is turning my 3.73s into about 3.4x... BUT I built my truck to be useable in all different terrains and look pimp, not just to go fast down the track so I'll take the 2-3 tenth penalty...... I'll make it up once the ECUs are hacked and we start tuning them.... I am sure there is 40-50rwhp hiding in the tuning alone....if not more. Another year or so and there will be FX2s running 13s....

No it is the stock 18's on my truck. One thing I notice different from your video is you launch at 2000 rpm. I can't. It stops at 1500 rpm for me. Regardless it looks like those ecoboosts just launch hard and that is the difference between it and the 6.2 because equal trucks they trap about the same.
