Introduction and Questions!

Hey y'all. My name is Zach and I live in Baton Rouge and attend LSU as a full-time student. I have always been a Dodge fan boy and have had several throughout the years. After some thinking, I drove home a 2011 F150 Platinum last week and haven't looked back yet. I went to the dealership with the intention of test driving a Ecoboost but drove away with a 6.2 Plat.

I am bringing my truck tomorrow morning to get the windows tinted, 15% front and 20% over rear windshield. I also want to add a leveling kit and exhaust in the next week or so. Here come the questions!

I have searched and searched this forum and plenty of others but I am still uncertain about leveling kits. I know that I want a AS kit but am uncertain about the size. With my engine being a 6.2, it is heavier than the 3.5 and 5.0, would I be better with a 2" front and 3" rear or 2.5" front and 3" rear? I have access to my dads 1 ton for heavy hauling so I am not worried about being butt high and would rather be close to level.

Again, I have searched for this answer but to no avail, exhaust. I have always ran full catback systems on my Rams but I would like to just replace the muffler on this one, for the time being. Does anybody have a 18" or 14" Magnaflow on their truck or can recommend a muffler that would sound deep and throaty but not overly loud?

I appreciate all the ideas and help to come, Zach.

Welcome man, how's that 6.2l feel? Magnaflow, borla xs or banks. All three sound great on the 5.4. There's no doubt it will sound good on yours.

Simply put, its a beast. I haven't even really let her stretch her legs yet (too much), but hot damn! Once she gets past the second of delay, hang on. The 3.73 gears helps with that too. But I have a hair over 1000 miles and am averaging 19-20 mpg running 60-65 on the interstate so I cant complain by any means.

I am really interested in advice about the leveling kit.

I know that normally people get the 2" front to level perfectly and 2" front 3" rear to keep some rake. I am concerned that the extra weight of the 6.2 might require the 2.5" front. Which isn't really a concern, just want to make sure that I order the correct size.

Shouldn't but a 2.5 will make it look more level. I seen alot of people go with hellbent steels leveling kits. There cheap and seem to have very good quality. I never leveled a truck so you might have to wait for the leveling gurus. Lol

I would go with a 2.5" in a heartbeat but I have heard that the tiny bit of extra height is too much stress on the CV joints. How true is this? I don't know but not worth the risk.

My heights as they are now are 37" front and 39" rear. A 2" front would make sense but I have also heard that the 2" AS kit gives a bit over 2"s but not quite enough so that the 3" rear looks good. Any advice from anyone, even if you don't know how to spell FORD would be appreciated!

I'd go 2", it's a pretty safe bet. The 'added stress and wear' basically boils down to parts that had a lifespan of 50k may wear out earlier, at say 40k. Not really a big deal, and for the most part no one really ever has any issues. I'd say most of the stress is coming from the larger tires you put on after a leveling kit, but again it really is not anything to worry about for the most part.

If you plan on wheeling it hard, I'd consider a lift kit rather than a leveling kit. Otherwise some light wheeling and mostly on road really won't be an issue.

I got my windows tinted today and it looks great! Ill post pictures once I get Lizzy lifted and cleaned up, not much to see until then!

I have pretty much decided on going with the AS 2" and 3". I wont offroad this truck much since I have my 750 Brute Force and got most of mudding out of my system with my old Jeep. Once these tires wear out ill be putting on 275/60/20s or 305/55/20s. Only wish the 305s were cheaper

I would be proud to be able to afford to go to college and buy a new F150 at the same time.

Well the username... How many people have "Ford" or "F150" in their handle? Yeah I get it, you're on a F150 website, you drive a Ford. So..... why not IceCreamSammich?!

And yeah I have seen quite a few younger people ripped on for their trucks paid for by daddy. I did trade in my 06 Ram 1500 on this truck but saved up the rest of the payment by working hard and spending little. I choose not to pay for it outright and go for the 0% financing.

I promise pictures will follow soon but I would like to make my truck a bit more "Mine" before doing so. Last question, for now. I decided on the 2" front 3" rear AS kit but my understanding is that they only do business through eBay. I do not have an eBay account and have no want to get one. Is there a way to purchase a kit through another vendor?

If someone knows the answer, please speak up. I am wanting to purchase the kit tonight or tomorrow and hopefully get around to installing it next weekend.

-Zach

I got my 2" AS off Ebay for under $75 shipped last year. Just sign up make the one purchase and don't go back on there. However it is a great source for aftermarket parts.

I thought the same, esp. a Platinum, but I don't begrudge him of it. If what he says is true more power to him Welcome, and congrads on the new truck.
