Give it a few thousand miles and try to hold it a little under 70 and you ought to get 22-23 mpg easy. I'm averaging a little over 17 mpg on my daily 100 mile commute. Straight hwy I'm getting over 19 mpg as she sit's now. Stock tires I was a little over 20 mpg. I still find the 5.0 is not as quick as the 5.4 from 0-40 mph but the 5.0 from 40 mph up run's like the Melton rabbit! Congrat's again on loosening up the cashbox and buying the new truck!

21mpg with a Hemi?

I had 3 Dodge Ram trucks with Hemi's and never got over 16mpg on highway. My 2007 I just traded in got average 12.1.

 

Ya seriously! No joke. Its pretty decent when you want it to be. I just got in the slow lane on the HWY and stayed there. Put the cruise on about 105 km/ hr and give'r.

You fellows going 500 miles on a tank do know that it costs no more in real life to stop and fill back up at 1/2 tank instead and that doing so will make life easier on your fuel pump 'cause it get's to stay cooler ...
... and ease sticker shock some as you experience, maybe more, but certainly much smaller "mini sticker shocks" at the gas pump.

13 litres per 100 km is more like 18 miles per gallon.
A litre is 1.0566 quarts. 13litres X 1.056 = 13.73 quarts / 4 = 3.43 gallons.
One kilometer is 0.621371 miles so X100 means 100 km is 62.1371 miles.
So 62.1371 miles devided by 3.43 gallons yileds 18.115 miles per gallon.
And by the same token, 105 KPH is just over 65 MPH.
Not bad at all! But not 21 MPG either.

For comparison, my '07 5.4 Scab 4wd Flareside (more aerodynamic likely with the narrower bed like a boat tail speedster .... haha) 3.55 gears (36K miles, cat back, SC tuner on 87 perf, "wife unit" along) will get 19-20 on steady cruise at 65 on relatively flat Interstate.

 

Same as mine Les... I'm around 20-21 on the highway with my heavy 20s. Sure is looking impressive for these 5.0's, but 3.55 (as I have and would get again) are the way to go for mileage. I'd rather be a little slower off the line and have lower cruising rpms

 

Going to be interesting to see what the actual mileage is when I do a fillup. Sitting at the bank drive in and all the red lights yesterday really took a hit on the computerized average.

 

I think you guyz get better gas mpgs than us in the plains states......it always confirmed every year by the Harley-Davidson sturgis riders......they get to the plains states and their mileage goes down....crap gas some say...these are riders coming from the east coast and down south and from out west....

 

I've got 6k on my 5.0, and I've never seen 20 mpg. Just got back from a 300 mile trip all hwy, and got 17.5. Thats the best I've seen since I bought it. Usually run around 16 to 16.5.

 

Where is most of your driving? Lots of hills?

 

The only difference you will see in hand calc and the display is how many gallons the truck said it burned and how many gallons go back into it. I always note the the gallons used and the pump always puts 2/10 or so extra in. Of course this will make the hand calc read lower mileage but the lie-o-meter is pretty accurate and consistent.

 

does this come in hetero?

 

Allow me to act as the unofficial Canadian interpreter...

13 litres per 100 km equals exactly 21.7293028 mies per IMPERIAL gallon
13 litres per 100 km equals exactly 18.0934295 miles per US gallon.

An imperial gallon is approximately 4.55 litres
A US gallon is approximately 3.79 litres

I'm a guy who grew up with both imperial and metric, but mpg makes more sense to me (as does fahrenheit degrees for that matter).

This is a good example of why metric makes sense sometimes. It definitely avoids confusion. A litre is a litre.

A gallon can be at least three different things. (A US Dry gallon (whatever that is) equals 4.40 litres)

BTW, if you set your lie-o-meter (pretty acurate for me) to read MPG, even in a CDN truck, it reads miles per US gallon.
