what is it?

2010 STX. Just bought it used. On my dash, just in front of the large rubber "tray" type thing, there is an almost square item in my dash. Pretty easy to pull out a little to check it out. Black hard rubber compuond and its attached with 2 wires. Any ideas what it is or does?

It is for automatic headlights. It is the sensor to turn on the headlights when it is getting dark out.

Auto lights are the h/l switch turned all the way to the right to the "A" It is also the only setting other than off that the door chime doesn't ding when the door is open.

The STX might not have that option.

A gadget for those who are 'challenged ' and can't tell when it's getting dark ! There's a similar gadget available for those who can't tell when it's raining.

no such thing on mine

No I don't have that option on my STX, so I'm back wondering what it is. Could it be that its set up for that option but I don't have it, like the SAT radio button that isn't set up 4 satellite radio?

If you can post a pic, the rest of us can compare it to our factory optioned trucks. Might be an add on the original owner installed. Might even be the proper sensor for wipers or headlights, that he added while the w/s was out. Perhaps his next move was to install the rest of the system.... then again, perhaps its a tracking system for theft recovery..... or perhaps, ........ pics please.

It is a light sensor to tell your dash lights and radio when to dim and when to get brighter. When its day time, you want your display lights bright, but when it is night time, you want them to dim. To test this, try covering the sensor with something completely. Then watch your radio lights, and you should see them get dim, or disappear. Also, that sensor turns on your daytime running lights, if so equipped.
