Looong Trip with Ecoboost
Looong Trip with Ecoboost
I just finished taking over a 4100 km trip that took over 43 hours, so I thought I would share the trip particulars and thoughts on my new truck.
Truck - 2011 F150 Ecoboost Lariat, Screw, 3.73 gears, off-road, max tow, 20" rims.
First Part of trip:
Before the start of the trip the truck had 1800 km on it. The first part of the trip took 26 hours. It should have been around 19 hours but there was some road issues and we had to take a 7.5 hour detour to get to final destination. The average fuel was 13.5L/100 km. The trip was through high elevations and very hilly for 12 hours of the trip. Speed was a range between 115-130km/hr (avg. 120). It was rarely on cruise control.
I could not believe the power this vehicle has in high elevation. At 6600 ft the truck had quick acceleration and no hesitation. It did not take much to push the vehicle to pass anyone.
Second part of trip:
The second part of the trip was 17 hours. Average fuel was 12.5L/100km. The second part was lower elevation (took another was home) and was slower speed averaged 110. The road was narrow, had lots of turns and was not in great condition.
Overall:
This truck kicks some serious a$$. When you need the acceleration it is there, however fuel economy will show. As soon as those turbos spool up the fuel drops very quickly. I found when I had it on cruise I could average around 11L/100km. This was with cruise set on 100 km/hr. When I set it on 110 km/hr fuel economy dropped another litre. I think after I get the first service and slow down on having soo much fun in this truck the fuel economy will be much better.
The truck was very smooth, even with huge frost heaves. It was very comfortable and the handling was great. In the screw, the back seat is soo huge. The dog loved it and had sooo much room she didnt know was to do.
Below are some pictures from the trip and the overall trip computer. Cheers

Umm 13.5 L/100 Km is about 17.5 US mpg. Below is the link to a calculator I used.
http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html
The mileage wasn't as great, but for the trip, the terrain, and me testing out what the truck could do, I was very happy with it. I had a little bit of a lead foot as I wanted to see what the truck was capable of. When you want to pass someone, it doesn't take much push of the pedal. When I was driving the around 100 and not passing people the mileage was around 12 L/100km. Plus the engine is not broken in (well now it is) and will be going in for its first service already now that it has 6000 km on it.
I'll be doing the trip again in middle of August and will see if theres a difference with the engine broken in.

Oooh forgot to add. I have the intercooler protector and if I didnt have it, a grouse would have been in there. A grouse flew across the road and I hit it right where the intercooler hole is. My camera was dead, but there was feathers in there and a couple paint chips gone off of the grill. So for everyone thinking not to get one, well I think it save me or that grouse would have hit the intercooler hard (100km/hr)
Also did not notice any heating issues with the grill and you can see by the pictures it was very warm (25+ degrees celsius)
