Lariat Grille on FX4

I purchased a lariat grille chrome edition with mesh background to replace my painted tuxedo black grille. I will be putting this on my FX4 as soon as I get it through UPS. Has anybody done this swap? If so I wouldn't mind seeing some pics. I will post pics to this thread in a couple days once it's installed.

Noooooooooooooooooo putting chrome on an FX4 is a cardinal sin.

i assume you are replacing the entire grille and shell seeing as how you are going from factory to factory. if thats the case you really have noting to worry about.

the hardest part about removing it is getting the tabs out of the hood from the top part of the shell. there are 5 of them if i remember correctly and i broke one when i did the billet grille on my 2010 FX2. wasnt a big deal and i used the same shell. it wont really matter if you break yours removing it because the one you replace it with will have the tabs on the shell. that is if youre new grille has the shell with it.

just pull up to get the shell loose from the hood. you have to use a good amount of force. and dont forget to remove the bolts for the rest of the grille and shell too, i think there were like 6 of them. good luck.

Yeah I have already taken off the grille to try and fix the dents on top of the painted surround. I ended up breaking 3 of the tabs. However the grille still hold on tight with just 2 tabs. I think Ford went over board with 5 tabs.

I think the FX4 grill looks better - way too much chrome for me, but all that matters is if you like it.

I think the black grill is better IMO. it gives it more of a tougher look

Thanks, I got it on eBay for $250. It's from a dealer in MO.

If it wasn't for breaking the tabs u could probably sold the fx4 grill for more than u paid for the Lariat based on popularity. Personally, I like chrome a lot, but still prefer the look of the fx4 grill. All that really matters is that u like I!

I think it looks classy!
IMO-the stock black grill looks very cheap on an FX4.

I agree! Especially when you see the exact grille on an STX.

They aren't the same on the 2011s. 2011 STXs have 3 bar grills and 2011 FX4s have 6 bar grills.

If you put a black STX next to this black FX4 with the same grill and took a poll as to which front end looks best I would bet it all the FX4 would win and probably by a land slide.

Now the '11 FX4 with a black 6 bar grill is totally slick.

not a fan, need to change up the wheels with some chrome ones and it'd probably look pretty good.
