As far as deposits go on the ecoboost, the hero engine came out looking pretty good after all that it went through. The Ford engineer stated that to keep it clean to use premium fuel and to periodically work it hard. That means that you guys that don't tow anything need to go out and buy a heavy boat or RV. Perfect excuse- Ford said so

Some of you guys must drive down hill a LOT...20+ mpg 5.4? Wow. My old truck (2010 F150, 5.4, 4x4 crew cab lariat with 3.55 gears) would only pull 17mpg at best on the highway, and that was only if would cruise at 65mph and baby it on the hills. Normal driving, I would get around 14.5-15 (75ish with the cruise control set). Some of you guys must use the same calculator that the Cummins guys use to say they are getting 30mpg.

The only thing worse is a DuraMax driver or a Ford PS owner trying to tell us they get 21 mpg going 75 down the highway with an 18 average. I know for a fact that is not real world. But its perpetrated by guys justifying paying the extra 5 grand to own a diesel and paying the highest fuel price in the land.

As a former 08 Crew Duramax owner, I can tell you with tears in my eyes, I am so happy without that bs mileage claim that never came to pass, the added maintenance cost of owning a diesel, especially now that I the heaviest thing I tow is max 9k pounds. My Ecoboost has been a Godsend where it counts---fuel price and spending 90% of its time unloaded or untrailered. I'm loving the 17-18 MPG real world avg @3.60 gallon vs. the 13 mpg avg @ 4.25/gal. Being so much more easy to drive with 1800# less truck under you day in day out going to jobsites---priceless

Yeh, right, gas is $4.25/gallon and Diesel is $4.10 here. We hadn't seen gas prices that low since the beginning of winter.

Well right now for at least the time being AZ is the beneficiary of lower gas prices, but that will change---it always does. If I really shopped hard there are stations here with 87 at 3.40 or perhaps even lower

Just picked my new FX4 screw ecoboost on Friday. Still on first tank (200 miles) and I am averaging 15.7 with most of it around town driving. Love the power and I am happy with the fuel economy for now. Drove the 5.0 and really couldn't tell much difference between the two but I chose the ecoboost on fuel economy.

Wow, on mixed driving, I average anywhere from 16 mpg to 17 mpg. With a lot more town driving in the mix, I get about 15 mpg. This is very good mileage. Perhaps you had mods, suspension, tires, wheels, tuner, that gave you such poor mileage. My truck is stock and I'm very pleased with the mileage. It equals my v6 SUVs, nearly equals my 2008 Sport Trac 4.6L 3 valve, and beats significantly the 2004 Titan I had. Now if you compare it to 'cars' in the form of crossovers, minivans, or sedans, than any truck based vehicle will have poor mileage.

Supposedly Chicago is the highest in the Nation as their gas prices are about $.20 higher/gallon than ours, but yours is definitely inexpensive by comparison. I just wish ours would drop below $4.00/gallon.

I personally think perhaps the difference between the 2, 5.0 vs Eco on mileage right now---its a wash. I like the Eco over the 5.0 for lower end torque and something perhaps a little more cutting edge. Whether we want to accept it or not, getting more out of less via turbocharging is going to be the future. The 2015 version of the Eco will probably belt out not much more power but I bet it will get 25 mpg or better

The gearhead in me wants to hang on to the romantic sounds of a V8 forever, but I'd be willing to bet there will be no such thing as a V-8 in a civilian vehicle 20 years from now.

A 75th anniversary Vette or Mustang barring Armmagedden in 2012 will have a twin turbo direct injected 4 banger or 6---count on it

No offense guys, but I take everything I read online with a grain of salt...Like I said, I got mid-teens for MPG with my 5.4, and it was basically stock other than a set of firestone ride-rite airbags and a magnaflow catback exhaust...and I never saw a noticeable increase/decrease in mileage after I installed the exhaust...so when I read about 20+ mpg identical trucks, I have a hard time believing due to my experience.

But it was the same with my old F250 with the 6.0, the mid teens that averaged was a far cry from all of the 20-30mpg rigs I read about on the forums...maybe my calculator just needs re-calibrated?

Take it from experience, diesel mileage claims, is for self fur stroking for owning one. It is not happening. My partner has a brand new 6.7 F250 SCREW with 6.5 bed. Hauling the family around and driving to work everyday he gets 14.5 combined mileage and that includes a highway trip to California or 2. Real world driving speed limit on the interstate at BEST he is getting 16-17...... with a tailwind on stock tires

My stock 4x2 XLT, 5.4, 3.55 rear would get 19.2 all day on the highway, running 75- 80. That was before big wheels and tires and before ethanol. I get about 15.7 now.
