Hows this for a bushwacker turn off?

While cruising around the 04-08 forum, I ran into a member named City of Champs. This pic was in his album, with the heading "this is the result of Bushwacker flares after 100,000 km" or 65,000 miles as a relative...

Wow. Totally turned me off buying them. I was considering it until I saw this.

Heads up boys, for those of you who already have em....

I believe it. I had Bushwackers on my old (brand new at the time) Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Quad and decided to take them off after several months. They had already worn a permanent line into the paint, so eventually would have worn the paint completely down and expose the metal.

Would these be alright in florida? No salt at all. Or does it wear down. What are we supposed to do now about fender flares?

They got a rubber grommet thingy that goes against the paint, I can see how over time it may rub and do that, especially if you get some dirt or sand trapped in there. I had some on my 01 for about 5 years until I sold it, it was dirty under there but never rusted or scraped off the paint.

Now I can refe someone to this when people want to put those ugly things on their trucks. Fender flares are for Jeeps. Tires look cool when they stick out.

I have had no issues in 5 years of service from my bushwhackers. Keep the truck cleaned up and you won't have any issues. If it's salty rinse it off often, if you off road clean it well after playing.. This member also lives in Canada, which is what, salt on the roads 75% of the time

Mine where off last fall when we repainted the entire truck and all I had was some scuffed up paint under the seal..

Same here, I've never had a problem with mine on my old 05 fx4 or 07 tundra

I loved my flares, they also had a rubber gasket between then and the truck. I too kept my truck clean so i did not have any problems. As for the tires sticking out, Yeah it does look cool, until you destroy your side mirrors from stuff flinging off the tires amongst other things. Id have them again without question. Proper maintenance goes a long way.

Just do this and never worry about the flares, or the paint underneath them
