Can sync use a flash drive for MP3s??

I've looked all over in my 2010 Sync guide and it doesn't seem to support flash drives although I've seen others mention using flash drives with their sync packages.

Thanks

Yeah, as long as it's formatted in Fat32, it should work fine.
Btw, most flash drives are already formatted, so don't worry about that. I only say this because if you have a mac that's formatted for a mac, Sync won't be able to see it.

Check out the USB2 mod if you haven't done it yet. With a couple bucks worth of cable, you can tuck away a flash drive or external hard drive into your glove box, and leave the front USB port open for charging your phone.

The thing to remember is that you cannot upload songs to the jukebox using a flash drive. The jukebox will only allow songs to be uploaded from CD and the songs must be in wma format, not mp3. In other words, the CD must be in Music format and not Data.

Actually the CDs must be audio CDs, not in any PC/MAC format.

Not seeing any mention of uploading songs, I read it as he just wanted to know if he could play MP3's straight off a flashdrive.

It does work. I have a flash drive plugged into mine. Are you using songs from iTunes. The songs need to be mp3 not m4a, which is iTunes. You can convert themm if needed.

Just take a flash drive format it for fat32' drag some mp3s to it plug it into yor USB port and navigate to USB and say play all

That's not 100% true. I have thousands of m4a songs on my external HDD using the USB2 mod. The problem is those AAC-encoded tracks that are m4p, or protected mpeg-4 audio files, like the old iTunes DRM stuff. THOSE won't play. Any current iTunes download, or audio you personally rip from CDs as m4a will play just fine!

I think its just because it a Microsoft product which sucks. I have mp3s which also don't play. Maybe some of my m4a songs play and some don't. I ll have to check into this. I don't have any purchased iTunes songs, just downloaded or copied off a cd.

Sounds like it will play Mp3s on the flash drive.

Thanks guys, I only record in Mp3 for compatibility and I never buy any compressed music off the internet. If I can, I buy DVD-audio or SACD to play on my Denon Component Theater system that I built piece by piece.

I have 2 hobbies, Home Theater and Camping. I often setup or build home theater systems for friends and family. I'm not much into the new compressed audio formats but since most vehicle systems suck and have no real resolution, you really can't tell the difference.

Thanks so much as bluetooth streaming from my windows phone only allowed track skipping and pause. I wanted title and album information and selection through the stereo system without having wires around. The USB connection will allow that and is very inexpensive and easy to use.

Thanks again guys!

Sounds like a MP3 in a glove box would meet your criteria.

He can just plug it directly into the USB port for the SYNC. Why have to put one in the glove box?

To keep your wife/girlfriend/dog/kid/you from breaking the USB port and dash panel when you hit it with her purse/your cell phone/baseball/etc.
