has anyone gotten a samsung strive to communicate successfully with sync? i can pair with the system, but it sometimes randomly disconnects and won't go any farther than the screen after you enter the PIN.

Check the Sync compatibility list and the Owner-to-Owner forum at Syncmyride.com

I checked the list, and the phone wasn't on there. I think I read that that doesn't necessarily mean it's not compatible though.

Try turning off Auto Download of the phonebook feature.
I also had a great improvement on my Samsung Impression when I had the SIM chip swapped to a newer level. I would just swap SIM chips with each phone I would get. I had connectivity issues and ATT sent me a new SIM chip. Works much better now.

I'll have to give that a shot. Over at syncmyride, others were having the exact same problem. It's too bad that site doesn't get as much traffic as here.

Who at ATT did you contact? 800 customer support number?

Sync sucks. Mine won't keep my phone connected also. Dealer says it's my phone, yet it does the same with the 8 other phones I tested. USB stops playing at times and freezes up. Tried to download updates from site and it doesn't work either. The online chat help guy was useless.

I'll never get a vehicle with Sync (or anything similar) again.

90% of Sync errors are operator head space and timing
5% are operators trying to force Sync to do things it was never designed for
4% are hardware incompatibility
1% are real issues

My cheapo XLT's Sync function works great. I've got the cheapo stereo unit as well.

But, if it hadn't been in the truck when purchased, I wouldn't have either.

I did an online chat with a SYNC rep. The SIM Chip was a separate issue with the phone dropping calls and showing dead zones. That is why I got a new SIM chip. It was only after the SIM replacement did I notice the improved performance of they SYNC system. Call ATT or go by an ATT company store. The new SIM should be free

I have the same issue with my Samsung Vibrant- both the phone and the radio show they are paired, but neither shows connected. I try to connect from both devices, no dice. I have to delete and re-pair about once a week; very frustrating. However, my wife's Blackberry and G2 stay paired perfectly. It has to be a Samsung issue as I have exchanged my phone and still have the same issue.

I've had no issues with a Palm Pre and now 2 Samsung Epics (mine and the wife's).......

....the only thing I DON'T like is that each time the phone connects to the Sync system, it automatically starts playing music on my phone, whether I'm in Bluetooth Audio or not.....kinda aggrivating when you get out of the truck, and your phone starts blarring "I'm Too Sexy" in the parking lot! That was fixed by turning off the bluetooth audio option within the settings for that connection within Android.

Including LINE-IN? I have an iPhone (which doesn't have an option to turn off Bluetooth Audio) and I have found that if I put the AUX input to LINE-IN before I shut off the engine, Bluetooth Audio won't start playing the next time you start the vehicle.

Kind of a hassle though. I only use USB and to enable LINE-IN, your device can't be connected to USB so you have to unplug the device to choose LINE-IN.

I have a Samsung Epic and use it all the time for calls and for streaming music. No problems in the last 4 months.
