Ordered my new truck today

Well? Time to put being a Mustang owner on hold for a little while, and get back to being a truck owner. Today I ordered a F150 XLT. 3.7 V6, 2wd, 3.73 LSD, rcsb. Tuxedo Black with XLT Custom, convenience, towing and plus packages.

Is it wrong that I have already planned the audio upgrades and shopped the lowering parts?

I guess I'll keep you all posted on the build progress, and will get pics up in a few weeks.

Definitely not wrong to have shopped stereo components. The oem one is garbage.

Yeah. When I test drove one, I tried out the stereo. All I can say is that it is great for talk radio.

Not sure which stereo you guys were listening to but the one in my new Lariat sounded pretty good after I adjusted the bass, treble, ALC and fader controls. Now if I was listening to rap music it may fall short in the "booming" bass department...but since I don't...the classic rock I listen to sounds decent enough.

However after hearing of some of the "long term" complaints on the speakers...I will be on the look out if they start to degrade and will probably, at that time, shop around for replacement speakers with a lot of the advice available on this forum in mind when I do.

I am guessing you have the Sony system? That one's not bad. I tried out the base stereo with the new Linkin Park and som Day to Remember, and it hella sucked.

I find it interesting people are complaining about the stereo. Either it is really bad or people are really over sensitive and don't listen to radio or mp3's. Just about all radio content is stored on computer in an mp3 format. When you listen to mp3's and compare it to CD quality there is a huge difference. I did it once on accident. I was listening to a CD and popped it out. The same song was playing on the radio. It sounded very muddy and not very good at all.

CD quality is good only if it is the original recording. Most people burn/rip CDs in 128kb/s format anyways which is compressed format. Rip your CDs into lossless or FLAC format and you can have excellent sound quality off an Ipod or hard drive.

Regardless, once you hear a properly installed, amplified and digitally sound processed sound system you will never go back. Stock stereo sucks, and anyone who shells out 100s of dollars for the premium factory stereo doesn't know what they are missing out on.

But to get back on topic, sounds like a sweet truck. Reg cab/short box with the V6 should see you getting excellent mileage. If you need any help with the stereo budgeting/install hit me up.

Congrads on the future new truck! Nothing wrong with being prepared for upgrades. I really wish that XLT custom package was available on 4x4's.

Congratulations on the new truck. I love music, but I'm not real finicky when it comes to the stereo that plays it. I haven't found a newer vehicle without a system that is acceptable to me. Does that mean I'm getting old?

Before you accept your new Truck --- Drive it and make sure you don't have rear end viberation from 45-up If so and if you can't live with it you'd better not accept it because Ford will not fix it and your stuck with it.

Sounds like you need to get your rig to a different dealer. Either that, or it is one of those situations where Ford engineering is working on a fix. I have seen this sort of thing before, and it is usually just a pinion angle issue. At least, on new trucks this is the case. I do know that the 'clunk' on take-off has no repair, at this time, though.

Perks of working in the service department at a dealer? I get to see what the common problems are with all of the new vehicles.

She got her VIN yesterday. Just a few weeks, and I will be riding around in Tuxedo Black hotness.

Thanks. I am starting to get impatient, though. The dealer I work for just sold its twin (well, twin in that it looks the same). Looks great with the windows tinted. I guess I have another mod to add to the list.

Here's the DORA, if anyone's interested.
