Awesome, informative thread. First post here. I've got a white 2011 F-150 XL LB Regular cab, 8ft bed, 2WD, 6-speed auto 3.73, and work/tow package. Has almost 2K miles.

My mileage is pretty similar. Best I ever had on the lie-o-meter was 25.0 or 26.0 on the highway/rural road.... achieved by bump-drafting with semis lol. It quickly dropped back to like 20.5 with regular driving.

Handling and power is pretty good. Driving around some mountains today with really tight curves and steep grades. Was hovering around 15.5 MPG. Caught up to and kept pace with a Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Welcome to the site!

It seems like people are having pretty good luck with the base engine so far.

I have owned my F150 for a year today. I have almost 9k mi on it right now. While I might nit pick about a couple things, overall this has been a great truck.

If you have time, chime in here every now and then. There will be people searching the internet for information of the base engine in the F150. The more people who post in threads like this, the more informed others will be.

Thanks Wittom! Yeah, I plan on updating every-so-often. I keep track of my MPG in an Excel spreadsheet Will post that once I figure out the best way to compile the data from it. (I'm not so good with some the formulas in Excel :o ) And congrats on 1-year of ownership. I got mine on 11-8-11.

Wittom, what's your average mgp for the 9k miles???? Assuming you left A or B meter from day one.

I don't have an average to give you at this point. I reset the lie-o-meter every fill up. I don't think that I have an A and B for mpg.

I have recorded every fill up and will calculate my average, when I can devote a few minutes to do so. I believe that I've posted my mpg at every fill up in this thread. Anyone could do the math, if I'd post my actual milage, but it is my intention to post that information. I was going to do it at my one year of ownership date, but life happens.

Stay tuned.

So, I took a few minutes and figured out an average.

This doesn't include the tank that I'm currently on.

These are numbers from my first year of ownership.

If I take all the mpg numbers that I posted here in this thread, add them, and then divide that by the 26 times I added fuel, I come up with an average of 19.7 mpg.

If I add up the number of gallons per fill up, I come up with 428.926 gal. At my last fill up my mileage was 8579.9. If I take the number of miles driven and divide it by gallons purchased I come up with an average of 20.00 mpg.

I've explained here over the past year, the type of driving I'd done for each tank of fuel. I didn't baby it all of the time.

I'd say that these are pretty good numbers.

I'd be curious what others end up with. With all of the engine choices.

I have purchased 96.662 gallons. My truck had 1865.0 miles at last fill-up. However, when I bought my truck it had about 6.5 miles on it when the dealer topped the tank off. So my actual trip total is 1858.5. The difference that those 6.5 miles make is .1 MPG (19.2 vs 19.3) So depending on how many miles were on it when they topped it off, that could make a difference. It would take about 100 miles difference to change the number on yours from 20 to 19.7.

I don't want have to pay for a lot of things, but understand that I have to. If I were that concerned or could just not afford the gas, I wouldn't have purchased a full size pick up truck. I don't know if you noticed, one of the main reasons Ford said they designed the new engines was customers concerns about fuel economy. If you don't care how much you spend on gas, ok. I've got a lot of things that I need to spend my money on. I don't have an unlimited supply. I, like many other Ford customers, am just trying to spend my money wisely. No one is saying you have to.

Like I've said, enjoy the 5.0. I'm sure that's a great truck.
OK... Its difficult to express humor in a forum message. My post was supposed to be humorous. My point was that we all are going to spend a significant amount on gas. I think we should enjoy our trucks and maybe we could do so more without focusing on gas consumption. The quote I gave was one I read somewhere and remembered - there is some truth in it.

Anyway, having said that... I have burned a tank of gas. My numbers are as follows:

2011, SuperCab, 5.0L, XLT Convenience Pckg, tow pckg, 3.73 limited slip diff

15 mpg in city with stops and starts every block

18-19 mpg on highway. But I was towing a uhaul trailer. Surprisingly, my fuel economy seemed to increase to about 22 mpg after I added 1100 lbs to the trailer. Maybe it was due to head winds on the trip to (empty) and wind behind me on trip back (loaded). Also, fuel economy increase dramatically when driving 70 mph verses 65mph... but I found it difficult to keep to 65 mph. I just wanted to go a little faster. I am hoping to do better on fuel economy.
So all you guys are doing better on fuel than me... I am using Calgary fuel.

Thanks for the thought on that... I have been watching the Trans temp guage very closely with the horse trailer. Most of the trips are under 100 miles one way, and to date (3 trips) The temp has not gotten close to getting a concerning level.

I have also learned that it's hard to express humor in a forum. Sorry I missed it. I'll try harder next time.

1 month report

I have had the truck(2011 SCREW w/3.7) for a month now, a little over 1400 miles and average of 18.5 mpg. I noticed the mileage is really affected by wind, driving into a 10-15mph headwind really drops the mileage but the hightop E-150 van I traded in only got 10-12 mpg in the same conditions so I am a happy camper. The more I drive this truck, the more I like it.

Thanks for the report. What gears do you have?

Reading this thread helped make up my mind. So i picked up a 2011 xlt scab 3.7 and i only have 600 miles on it but on a 220 mile trip 80% highway i got 22 mpg. Around town and rural i get 17mpg.
