Thinking about a 3.7 V6 F150? I've got one.
I just bought a 2010 Fusion today. The reason is I have a 16 year old and a third car would help. But also because my truck is a v-8 and our family vehicle is a 5.3 suburban. It will allow us to rest the gas guzzlers and scoot around town on the cheap.
But you are right Witton, it is becoming necessary to do this to avoid having the money sucked out of our pockets. It cost me $100 to fill my suburban.

forestertundr, that Fusion should be a good car. I heard a blurb on the radio the other day about a recall on them though. I guess that wheels can fall off? I didn't look into it, but you might want to check into it to make sure there aren't any issues with the one that you've got.
Filled up the tank again today. It seems like I'm doing this pretty often. I bought this truck in January and I'll have almost 10k on it when I hit the 1 year of ownership mark. I haven't put this many miles so quickly on previous vehicles.
So the numbers today are 20.24 old school math and a 20.1 on the lie-o-meter. Went 350mi. I'd say this is pretty damn good considering it's December. Even had the truck in 4X4 a little today to get in and out of the area where our trailhead was. I don't think I could have got through this area with the Edge that I had, which is why I now have this truck.

Thanks for keeping the thread going. A few months ago, we got my wife a new 2012 Mustang with the 3.7/M6. I have been so impressed with the power and mileage, when I saw Ford had put this engine in an F150, I had to see how they drove.
I drove 2 different SCabs and 1 SCrew(all 2wd) and I was sold. I do a lot of towing, but it is a relatively small(16ft) boat. Had to hunt to find exactly what I was looking for, but....2011 SCab, 3.7, XLT, Candy Red, with tow, convenience, and chrome pkg. Only a couple hundred miles so far, like it a lot.

Nice truck there. Please, let people know what you think of that set up. There are a lot of discussions about the 5.0 and the EcoBoost. I think that people are probably less likely to "discuss" the 3.7, but I think that there are a lot of people "lurking", looking for information on it. I'd be curious what you think of the trucks towing ability.
Witton I am anxious to drive one at some time. I have not heard anyone complain about the lack of power with the 3.7. Some have said it will really wined out but other than that they are impressed.
A few years ago I rented a supercrew 4x4 with 4.6. I was not impressed with its power. I ended up with the Toyota.

Love your story of all the vehicles owned. I too have had several over the years. 95 Ranger Splash, 96 F-150 XL 5.0 gas hog, 98 F-150 XLT 4.2 V6, kept that one until it had 190K miles was a great running truck, 04 F-150 XLT super crew 4.6 - loved this truck but was a gas hog. Recently took delivery of a "new" 2011 F-150 XLT Super Cab 3.7 and I must say, it actually does have a bit more power than my last Super Crew with the 4.6. I have only driven it for about 300 miles at this point but, I am hoping for some good gas mileage numbers. You see, I drive about 150 miles a day just for work so, that means a lot to me. I have found that. K&N filter does help so, that will be the first change when I need to replace the one that is in it now. Oh, before I got this truck, I thought I would try something different so, I drove a 2008 BMW 535i for a year and a half. What a great performer and ride. I realized that I missed having a truck and needed one as well. Here I am now since Saturday 12/10/11 back into my favorite truck, Ford F-150
All they did for me was to remove some of the delays so that there is a little more throttle response, and it pulls harder. I've noticed a slight decrease in mpg after installing the tune. I haven't removed it to compare.
Someone else can have 5 Star make them a tune for performance. You can tell the rest of us how much better it is. I'm trying for consistantly good fuel economy, which I have got so far, and don't want to risk lowering my averages for slightly better performance.
Wittom,
Great thread. Recently brought home new 2012 F150 Supercab 2WD with 3.7 and 3.73 rear end. Will post fuel results but first couple of hundred miles (highway) indicates avg of 23-24 mpg on computer.
L454S - nice looking ride.

I'm really happy with mine, but when I read that some people with the 5.0 are getting 22mpg, it makes me think that I could have gone for the V8. But then, I did pay less for the 3.7, and it has really encouraged me to drive more safely (slowly
).Looking forward to what kind of mpgs you get with that 4X2 , and what you think of the ride.
The 3.7 drives like any of the older model V8's I have had in normal driving. I towed with it last week(1500# boat rig) about 200+ mi. Couldn't tell it was there. Instant MPG was showing 19mpg at 65. Hand calculations after showed this to be true.
From what I see so far, if you have loads like mine, you won't know the load is there. Did not use tow/haul mode, not needed. No down shifting on overpasses.

Rarely tow anything long distance and typically nothing over 3,000 lbs (12 ft single axle trailer with Polaris Ranger). Kept the $1,000 (cost for the 5.0 option) in my pocket - will need it given the high price I paid for corn this past year on the deer lease!!!
Good to hear about L454S's recent experience pulling his boat and getting 19 mph. Towing my Ranger home this weekend. A short run of about 50 miles and will post mpg results.
