I looked everywhere for either a light diffuser or air intake diffuser, both were impossible to find(very commercial applications) or were terribly expensive online as GTXKen pointed out...Finally figured out you can get black plastic diffuser from most local fish stores...I picked up an entire sheet for $15, enough to make about 4 grills.

Looks awesome btw...I might even like it better than my first attempt?....Sorry for my typo....I was simply trying to say that I am going to try the same, BUT with a black plastic egg crate(also a light diffuser) vs. your metal version.

All you have to do is become a contractor and rehab a house. You'll find these things everywhere then. That's how I knew right off the bat how the OP made it.
