Actually they don't start building them until around the 3rd, so they are probably still tweeking them. When they get the final version tuned for mass production then they will get it EPA tested, you guys just need to be patient...

Or maybe they have the numbers and realize that they are good enough to hurt sales of trucks already on the lot.

I guess I just don't see the black helicopters on the horizon.

15/21 fantastic for 4x4 with 420 lb-ft from gasoline!

(Assuming the 15/21 is accurate...)
I'm with you, Racer. I was HOPING for 16/22 and would have peed on myself for 17/23... but I don't mind 15/21 at all. That's better than the 14/19 my '05 5.4 is rated for, and it's only 4x2 300/365.

With the 2011 EB, I'll get:
  • a lighter front end with improved steering and braking
  • an extra 65 HP from the factory
  • an extra 55 lb-ft Torque at lower RPMs, with a MUCH broader curve
  • and a 16% bump in fuel economy!

Everyone complaining about a measly 2-3 MPG needs to realize how much improvement that actually is in a truck! This isn't a 3400-lb aerodynamic car with a wimpy 4-banger! This is a nearly three ton beast that will out-pull any half-ton out there! At only 1700 RPMs, the EB is rated as high as the 5.0 is at peak... then it climbs significantly from there and doesn't fall off until 5000 RPMs.

Even Ford's new 6.2L V8 (the most powerful GAS engine offered in any half-ton TRUCK) can't touch that, not "catching up" with the EB until about 4000 RPMs.

Great post. I just have one correction. Your 05 F150 was rated 14/19 under the old system. The rating system was revised in 2008. Under the new system 2005 mpg is only 13/17 in 4x2.

So if 4x2 is 23 on the highway that's 6 mpg more!!!!!! A 35% increase. Wow!

Excellent point - I doubt many people are considering that when they're criticizing the new engines for the relative lack of MPG improvement. I know I hadn't thought of that...

I wasn't impressed at all either, compared to my 2007, until that post put things in that light. I'd guess with the current system, my 2007 4x4 SC would have been rated at more like 16 on the highway. If a 2011 4x4 SC can get 5mpg better while making so much more HP and torque, that's more of a significant improvement than I was originally giving it credit for.

There was a small blurb in the Jan 2011 Popular Mechanics mag that talked about the new engine lineup. According to Ford, the Ecoboost will give a 5% mileage gain over the 5.0L. So I would say those numbers are right. That being said, my 2010 with a 5.4 is rated at 15 mpg combined, the Ecoboost is 17 mpg combined. That is pretty good considering the power increase.

According to the link on the window sticker, the truck was produced on 12-22-10.

Pretty much. I've periodically checked out the site for years, and I finally decided I needed to speak up! LOL!

(And as far as I know, johndeerfarmer and I are not related - even though my dad has a couple of them on his farm. [4430 & 4020])

I get 24-25 cdn mpg with the 5.4 on the hwy so "upgrading" to the 5.0 makes no sense to me. I tow a boat 8 months of the year and the 5.4 is effortless in doing so. 75% of my driving is highway so the ecoboost at 30+ cdn mpg makes a worthy upgrade.

I guess time will tell. People will post their real world mpg's on this site with the new motors. That said, we all have different driving habits and I believe that is the number one factor in determining fuel economy.

Once I find an ecoboost screw 4x4 window sticker I will post it on here!
I would like to know how you are able to achieve 25 mpg with the 5.4? Is all your driving downhill??

Even though the eco boost is not going to produce the mpg numbers like i wanted. Its still better than my 5.4 by far and just imagine what the after market is going to do for this engine!
