Slap on big tires and it doesn't matter WHAT engine you have - it will lose gas mileage.

Exactly what I was thinking of doing once I saw it posted on here by you I believe. If your going to run 35's, 4.10 is fairly close to the effective gear ratio. Nothing will keep mpg's the same with larger tires though, expect a drop.

I can't believe truck owners are so concerned about gas mileage, They're trucks with big engines. They're going to get terrible gas mileage. EOD!

Yea, I just saw that commercial during the BCS National Championship. That should generate a lot of interest for those that haven't heard of the Eco-Boost yet. Go Ford! and Go Tigers!

The commercial I saw during the BCS had the gas mileage for the 3.7 2wd featured at 23.

Yeah, the main advertisement said 22mpg, but if you looked at the fine print on the bottom of the commercial, it said 23mpg for 2wd.

Just wish Ford would have decided to reinvent the Ranger for the U.S. also. Imagine the EcoBoost in a Tacoma sized truck. The double cab 4x4 tacoma weighs 1,300 lbs less than an F-150 super crew 4x4. An engine like the EcoBoost could be "detuned" to 325HP and 375lbft and get 25/31 mpg in a truck that size/weight and still be over powered. Even if it only gained 5mpg 20/26 compared to the 15/21 of the F-150. You will never convince me a truck that sized with those kind of numbers wouldn't sell like hot cakes.... Oh well crap in one hand, wish in the other.....

02RegularCab re: tacoma - that size of truck won't fit a family of 4 + dog + luggage!
My 09 SCREW feels small each summer we take off to the cottage.

Even two of us duck hunting with all the gear secured in the SCREW can get tight with a 65lb black lab.

SporTrac + ecoboost, does that work for ya?

Cheers!

The problem is that it costs almost the same amount to design and build a small car as it does a big one. However, the buyer will want to pay a price proportional to the size. The Ranger has always been a great small truck but why buy a Ranger when a Sport Track is close to the same price? The same thing goes for the Ranger to F-150, the price difference is not enough. People end up buying the larger vehicle for only a few grand more.

If Ford were to keep the Ranger and EB it, I'd bet they would do it with a 4 banger.

So no one else thinks a Tacoma sized Ranger, with a SCREW cab and 6 ft bed 4x4 that got 20/26 would be a viable option? Good thing I am not calling the shots at Ford, we would be in trouble.....

The problem is not do a few of us think its viable, the problem is do 100,000 folks think its viable? Probably not that profitable if they can't sell 100,000 of them AND not leach sales from the f150
