I think personally (IMO) that the EB is the obvious choice when buying a 2011+ F-150, but even with the improved MPG it still isn't going to go very far between fill-up's with the small gas tank.
That's why you are trading in your F-150 on a car with a 17 gallon tank, right?

MKZ Hybrid 36mpg x 17g = 612 miles to the tank

F-150 EB 26mpg x 26g = 676 miles to the tank
If you think 26 is somehow inflated: F-150 EB 24mpg x 26g = 624 miles

Good point...plus isn't getting better gas mileage mostly about saving $$. Who cares if you have to stop 1/2 hour sooner to fill up in that 600 mile road trip.

If I did highway driving of any kind, I'd agree not much difference in fill-up's. You're absolutely correct.

But I do 99% City driving, so you'd have to do a comparison of 41mpg vs. 19mpg. Pretty big difference there. I just don't use my truck for anything other than a daily driver, no towing, plowing, hauling, nothing. I buy 'em purely because I think they are the best-looking vehicles on the planet. Still do, just need something more economical for my city driving for the next 8-10 years or so.

Pay off the house, then back to whatever I want to drive again. Just want that security & peace of mind first. And I certainly won't be leaving the Ford family, I won't even consider a foreign hybrid or anything like that, no thanks. And chrysler vehicles plain suck, with GM vehicles not that much better. Have you seen their new volt? Sat in it? The thing is crap, IMO. The interior looks like something out of a failed Star Trek episode.

PS For anyone who hasn't kept up with the EcoBoost Torture Test vids, they have 5 of the 7 videos now available. Great stuff, this engine is pure awesomeness. http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/experiencef150/

According to the figures just posted this week on the F-150 site it goes like this:

3.7 V6
4x2 17 City/23 HWY 4x4 16 City/21 HWY

5.0L V8
4x2 15 City/21 HWY 4x4 14 City/19 HWY

6.2L V8
4x2 13 City/18 HWY 4x4 12 City/16 HWY

Now this is purely speculation, but I would think that the combination of the 3.7 MPG figures, and the fact that Ford is pushing the EB so hard....I'm gona go out on a wishful limb and say that I am anticipating/hoping when the EB figures come out, the Hwy is going to be in the 26 area.

I was thinking the same thing about the tank size....which is one more reason I tend to believe the EB mileage is going to be around that 26 Hwy figured.....generally as MPG goes up, tank sizes go down.

I have to admit that I would love to run right out and put in an order for and EB, but the practical side of me still has questions, especially those MPG figures, and of course an all important test drive. For me that means waiting on both the MPG figures, and for an EB to arrive at our local dealership (tried to schedule a test drive, but it's just not feasible for me to travel to where I can take part). My "gut" tells me that the EB is going to be worth the wait.

Let's discuss this.

Are you sure you only drive city miles? Most F150 drivers and most people in general, don't just drive "city" miles. City doesn’t mean just non-highway, it means stop-and-go rush hour traffic only, no free flowing traffic, no rural roads, no suburban roads. Hence, most people do some kind of mixed driving.

41 for the Hybrid is the max best possible scenario stop and go rush hour, non-highway, over long distances, not short.

Edmund's tested the hybrid and this is what they got:
Best Fuel Economy: 35.8 mpg
Worst Fuel Economy: 30.1 mpg
Average Fuel Economy (over the life of the vehicle): 33.2 mpg

So the best would be 608 miles
Worst: 511 miles
Avg: 561 miles

In this post, mileage dropped to 30 mpg when on short trips, non-highway.

Why is my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid getting 31mpg, city driving?
http://answers.edmunds.com/question-...ng-101674.aspx

Or how about Motor Trend?
"So what do we make of the Fusion's 41/36? Our 500 miles behind the wheel didn't support it. Nor did trip computer data gleaned from a sequence of three different driving scenarios -- a 100-mile run at 70 mph (33.2 mpg), a 35-mile/50 mph stint punctuated by stops (34.4 mpg), nor a brutal 25-mile stop-and-go schlep that eked out 24.9 mpg."

Read more: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...#ixzz17m4FsDMf

USA Today?
"Best guess: Moderate, but not mileage-obsessed, drivers could get 35 mpg or so in suburban settings. Not the 41 government rating, but impressive for a 3,720-pound midsizer."

Using USA Today's figures: Hybrid 35mpg x 17g = 595 miles

Now, using fall flat on my face F150 figures of just 19mpg x 27 g = 513 miles. There is a difference, but not this huge difference you were talking about. And if I bumped the F150 up to at least 20 = 540 miles, 21 = 567 miles, and if split right down the middle between 19 and 24, that's about 22mpg or 594 miles per tank.

So that everybody has a kinda clue, here's the new test data for the drive cycles for EPA testing. It's a lot different than just going the 10.8 miles and averaging 45+mph.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/fe_test_schedules.shtml

For the nah sayers, in the right hands and under the right condition's, the EB is not only capable of 26 hiway, it can exceed that number. As far as I know the exact numbers have not been published or granted by the EPA.

I bet I could get that eb pushing 26 the way I drive. I average 18-19 mixed in my 5.4 over the summer and spring months. It's doable imo

I have a tendency to believe very little I read in a magazine. Too many times they get their facts wrong. With that said, from what other people have posted and what I've gleaned from various sources (hopefully they weren't getting numbers from the same place) 26 mpg might be the doable range. One person said he was told by one of the engineers (I know friend of a friend of an uncle's roommate) at a drive event that 26-27 range is where the truck is at. Since none of the other engines are there, I am left to assume it is the eco. I wouldn't doubt if Ford came out and labeled the eco at 24 or 25 (possibly through detuning) just to make it easier to bump up in later model years when the competition improves their mileage.

Also going from what I read about the mileage competitions at the drive events, my commute is perfect for fuel mileage. I drive about 5 miles to work. Out of that 3-4 miles are on rural roads, with low speed limits, and no stops. My current car is rated at 21 highway. I average 21-22 in mixed driving from my commute and I don't baby my car.

Now Cometflash about paying off that mortgage..............................Just kidding guys, I'm leaving that one alone this time.

Even if it was 19/26 those figures wouldn't be for a 3.73 axle. EPA tests are done with the "standard axle" which for a 4wd ecoboost is the 3.31.

Also I noticed the asterick * next to the mileage figures but couldn't find what that meant. Was there a note somewhere in that article that said estimated, expected, wild *** guess, or what?

Hey, I'm really good when it comes to taking care of my debt obligations. (FYI: I make crap money; and my fiance is disabled and makes next to nothing for 20 hours a week. By no means do I make any money of any kind, retail store manager pay here... :o). Almost embarassed to say it, yet I work 3 times as hard as everyone I know who gets to do something for their job other than the cluster that is retail sales. Go figure how that works when everyone makes way more than I do not working nearly as hard.

I just payed off my 2009 Platinum that I bought March 31st 2009 for 40k - in just a year & a half. Just got the title in the mail yesterday!

I'll bang that mortgage out, just watch! I should have the house closed by late December/early January; and then I can get to it!

~25 highway is very believable if you are doing 65 on flat surface. I used to get 20-21 with my 5.4/4spd before I lifted it. However, 19 city is a bit of a push I think. Stop and go, in and out of boost, I feel like it will be a lot thirstier than some may think.

I am shocked to hear this. I remember you talking about your store before. From your posts about your store, your investment advice posts and buying a new Platinum, I always got the impression that you were the store owner. I thought you were a wealthy business owner giving out investment strategies, buying a a new Platinum F150, and then buying a new house and buying a new Lincoln came up and I was really impressed with what you were doing. I was like wow this guy has it all! Now I see this post and I am now not only sad to see the F150 go but shocked to hear that you do not make money of any kind. Wow.
