Yes, the 5.0 is better than the 2010 5.4 hands down. In every way.
Depends on the application. For racing I would take the 5.0 but for torque down low I would take the 5.4. Sure the 5.0 has more power and torque but wouldn't be much fun towing as you would have to keep it wound up all of the time.

I don't have a copy of the torque curve for the 5.0 but I don't think the difference is quite as pronounced as you would think. The 5.4 3V makes peak torque of 365 @3750. The 5.0 makes peak torque of 380 @4250. There is only a difference of 500 RPM between the peaks.

The 5.0 I drove would kill my 5.4 even with the tuner. I will concede that I have the 4 speed tranny vs. the 6 speed behind the 5.0 but the motor was stout from idle to redline. It is nothing like the GM 5.3 which is gutless until you rev the snot out of it then comes alive.
