I took my flip key to my local ford dealership. The easy way to get it cut is to take the flip key apart and just bring the blank shank key to them to cut.

I unscrewed and removed my key from the base, took the blank to my local Ace Hardware store and they cut it no problem.. Works great.

Does yours look like this?

I didnt have to mess with any spring.. Just removed 2 tiny screws on each side of the blade and pulled it right out. When i re-installed mine i used a tiny bit of loctite blue on the screws.. Goodluck..

tg, how did you get that key ring through the flipkey? I tried like hell and couldn't get any size of one to fit- the holes seemed too far apart.

How long have you had your key like this? I'm very tempted to buy one on fleaBay, but have concerns about durability.

I've been using the same remote from eBay for about 6 months. It has worked flawlessly since day one on my 2010 FX4.

Yeah i hear ya, it wasnt easy.. Hardest part was finding one small enough.. I just pulled the ring apart, slid a toothpick in between the rings to keep them apart and open. That way i was able to loop it though the remote .

Unscrew the battery compartment and the little chrome piece comes out and makes it easier. I used a small length of my old Air Force dog tag chain...

Had mine cut this morning at WalMart. They did not charge me anything. Came home and followed the instructions that came with the key (with is nearly verbatum from the owners manual). Did the remote function first and then the key. Everything works great...
